I have a large number of txt files I used to read with another phone. What's the best app to read them from if I move them all to my external SD card? Is there a good builtin ap or one to download? I'd like it to come back to the same place in the file as when I move away and/or close the phone. I understand that turning the phone off or changing the bttery would stop the process.

If you don't want to edit the .txt files, then you might have a look at an eBook reader like 'Moon+ Reader' or 'iReader' 
Both have an explorer for the SD card/phone storage, a nice book shelf for the most recent files and will remember the recent page where you left.
Note: When using iReader, I prefer the version 'iReader (offline)' from Play Store.
