Ready to switch from the Motion to the Spirit, but have some questions...

OK, I'm going to hold out until the end of the month to see if the Sammy S-3 price drops, but if not I'm going to upgrade from the LG Motion to the LG Spirit.

I also plan to buy from Wirefly, but Wirefly states that they activate your phone once you sign for it.

Here's the problem: I got the $30.00 monthly promo plan at the end of October last year when I bought my LG Motion.
The Wirefly site does not have this plan listed, and if they activate my new LG Spirit will they honor the $30.00 monthly plan I currently have, or would they put me on the $40.00 plan?

Yeah, I know. It's only $10.00 a month but it adds up to $120.00 a year and I don't use much Data as I have WiFi at Home, Work and even on the Bus that I take to Work so I rarely go over 200MB of Data per month (I used about 100MB last month.) even though I'm allotted 250MB of Data per month. (Too bad unused Data doesn't roll over!)

If I buy from Wirefly, I will save $43.00 and possibly more if they don't charge Tax to California buyers.

I've also read that Metro will honor rebates from Wirefly and I'm wondering if anyone that purchased a phone, especially the LG Spirit from Wirefly has been refused or had trouble getting the rebate?

Apologies for the long and redundant post, but I just spent $150.00 + tax + Activation for my LG Motion a few months ago, so I would like to save as much $$$ as possible when I buy the LG Spirit. I will likely keep my LG Motion as a spare phone as they currently have little resale value, although that might change once the rebate ends.

BTW, does Wirefly charge for Activation?
I've also read that in order to keep my $30.00 plan, I would have to have the new phone activated at an authorized Metro retailer, but if Wirefly automatically activates your phone once you sign for it, then it would not be possible to have a retailer activate the phone since it comes pre-activated from Wirefly.

Any clarification on this would be appreciated as I would really like to get the LG Spirit.

Thanks.

I just ordered a spirit from wirefly. Haven't gotten it yet but from my understanding they do not activate it, you can activate it yourself or the it to a dealer. You can keep your current plan. Also I understand that you can get the rebate as well.

Wirefly doesn't activate your phone or require you to activate thru them. It appears they mess-up now and then and put paperwork to that effect in with the phone but They. Do. Not. and. WILL. Not. activate your phone. You can activate it on-line Or by phone for no charge TO your current account. I activated by phone and kept my $55 plan that had already officially ended by then.

I got my Spirit in the mail on 2/20 and the rebate stuff was on it's way to Metro the next day. It was just barely a week til I got an email that they'd received it all, and that I was "scheduled for final processing". Those are the magic words you want to hear, that means they will make one more check 35 days after you said you activated the phone on the rebate form, Be Sure you still have service on day 35, then send you your card.

I only got my Motion on 1/31 so I too kept it for a Backup. They are still going for $100 used on Ebay though.

There were/are a couple things about WF that disturb me. But I did get my phone there as it's the best deal By Far IF THINGS GO RIGHT as they should.
Their website has No Info on what to do about warranty work on the phone past your 14 day trial period. That concerns me that they could weasel out of warranting the phone and You would have to send it back to LG. I have no clue but I doubt a Metro store is going to tighten you up with a warranty phone for a Wirefly purchased phone.

They WILL put your phone on the slowest ass rickshaw from Maryland and it'll take around a freekin' week to get to you. Only the dummies swinging the big bats for contract phones get 2 day delivery. :o

I also checked before I bought from them as a last result and NONE of my usual tricks to contact a companies Executives (in case I need to make a complaint Count) worked with them. They've done a good job making that info hard to get.

But if everything goes as it Should with their purchase that wouldn't be an issue. It just gives me a bit of the heebie jeebies. The facility my phone came from was in Maryland, no sales tax for me. There shouldn't be any for you unless Wirefly has a facility of some sort in Cali.

Just be sure and save good clean copies of everything you send into the Mothership and you'll be fine.

Can someone post the rebate form for me? I sent mine in, but the never received it. I went to metro's website to print off a new one, but the link is dead.

Bought from Wirefly, rebate is already registered at the mymetropcsrebate site and just received my first monthly bill: $30. Don't bother with taking it to the store unless you don't have another phone to call Metro's 888-8ME-TRO8 (863-8768) and switch your Motion. Call the 888 # from a phone other than your Motion or Spirit, have IMEI #s for both phones and some patience and you'll be fine.

Note that it IS a .pdf so you have to have a viewer for that.

Thanks Bruce! Everytime i would click the link on metro's website i would get a "request could not be completed". Your link worked great.

Thanks for the informative replies.

I read somewhere on the Wirefly site that they activate your phone once you sign for delivery, but I'm thinking that might be for new accounts.

So at this point, it looks like I will be getting the LG Spirit soon, but I'm going to hold out for a bit to see if the Sammy S-3 is deeply discounted as the S-4 is going to drop soon.

Wirefly doesn't charge tax for California sales either, so that saves even mo' money.

I figure I'll be paying $229 - $70 = $159 after MIR

Lightly used LG Motion phones are going for about $85.00 on eBay and I also have a 16GB iPhone 3G that I can sell, so I'll just sell both phones which will basically pay for my LG Spirit.

I have the original boxes and user manuals for both phones, so that helps resale value.

I'll be getting either the Spirit or the S-3 in a few weeks.

I'm tempted to order the Spirit right now, but I want to wait a bit to see if the pricing on the Sammy drops. I have until the end of the Month, a week after my Birthday so this will be a B-Day gift to myself.

Thanks again!

A Spirit just went on The Bay for $266 + shipping.

Go ahead and get the Spirit now. If you want, sell it on The Bay for what you paid for it. Probably enough for a decent dinner afterwards.

I would bet money out of my pocket Metro doesn't drop their price on the S3 anytime soon. The Wirefly price for the S3 is going to be the best there is until and IF Metro announces getting the S4 and that ain't gonna happen soon I don't think.

I sold my 2 DroidXs for $80 and that went towards my Spirit which in the end, all told, cost me $90.

Another neat thing if you have a Motion is they use the same charger. So keep using your Motion charger with the Spirit until it dies then you have another new charger already on deck.

Thanks.

I have until the 31st to decide. The S-4 is rumored to hit the market in April, so I'm hoping to see Wirefly drop it to $300.00 like they briefly did last year, but I'm doubting it so I will likely just buy the LG Spirit from Wirefly in a couple of weeks and in the meantime, I'll put my old iPhone up for sale on fleabay and then do the same after I get my LG Spirit since both of those phones will basically pay for the Spirit after rebate.

Edit:

This quote came from an online article in businessinsider.com today:

"The announcement for the (S-4) phone is March 14. We're not sure when it goes on sale, but if we had to guess, we'd go with late March to mid-April release. In other words, tell your friends to hold off on buying an Android phone for the next month or so."

The fact that Someone Somewhere on Some carrier can get the S4 3/14 has Zeeroo affect on when or even IF the S4 *Ever* comes to Metro.

It would be completely insane even for Metro to bring the S4 on board having no idea whether or not the merger is going through or not. (Ie; Would they then bring it on as a Metro S4 or T-Mo S4?) The shareholder vote has been backed up to the middle of April.

There has been some commenting on this on other threads already.

Then, even When they decide to bring it aboard they have to wait several months for them Metro to be able to get a more favorable pricing than when it is First introduced. And, whatever Wirefly does to the S3 pricing is totally dependent on what Metro does or doesn't do with the S4.

I don't know Jack, but even if the merger IS approved the middle of April, I'd be SHOCKED if Metro got the S4 before Labor Day.
