I stated thinking about getting a disc and magnet mount four may s3 in my jeep. But them I wondered if anyone had seen a battery door replacement that is made of some kind of metal that would magnetize to a magnet.

Or ant Geoffrey great disc and magnet kits?

Your best bet is to check out eBay for custom backs, there is no Official metal backs for the phones.
You could also try a back cover Protector case which are sold at many retailers: D

I Was hoping somebody would chime in and let me know what covers are actually made of a magnetic material. Some say steel, buy then in description, says aluminum.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that if you have a steel cover on the back, you will kill your mobile signal.

I agree, that was a concern. Well, for now, I just went and mounted a spare rare earth magnet (from my home alarm system install) behind the dash of my jeep and put a small thin washer (dime size) under my battery door. It holds surprisingly well! The magnet is behind a shelf, so the S3 is already sitting and leaning back a tad, and the magnet is behind the thin plastic wall its leaning against. So the magnet is not holding the weight of the entire cell, just from sliding side to side or tipping back towards me when I accelerate.

I will have to do some more testing when I drive. I may get a slightly thinner washer that is slightly bigger diameter.... maybe quarter diameter. Or some thin metal banding strips, and glue them inside the battery cover, so I am not laying the quarter over my battery every time I swap batteries.
