Really want micro sd

nexam

Lurker
I have the Nexus 5 mainly because it is a pure Android phone. It was great that my last phone S3 has an option to switch an extended battery out off MPJ though; I haven't really had to do that on Nexus 5 so far. However, I like to have a lot of data on my phone, so micro SD is pretty important for me. Have no idea why it doesn

You could get a Micro SD to USB adapter and an OTG cable and use them with Stickmount or Nexus media importer. You will need to be rooted to write to the SD card though. (reading from it doesnt require root).

To be honest though you should have realized that the Nexus 5 doesn't have an SD slot before you bought it?

Another alternative is to get some online, cloud storage through Dropbox https://db.tt/dkHCEwl or Copy https://copy.com?r=Qv8XYH and store the files that you dont use often online.

When I switched from the iPhone to Android SD cards and removeable batteries were a big deal until I realised I actually never needed either. I've always put all my stuff in cloud storage anyway.

Of course every user is different but if it is a big deal then another phone probably should have been considered.

I did hesitate before getting a phone without an SD card and removable battery, but have to say, I haven't really missed either. And it's been 18 months now (Nexus 4) ..

Same here. After getting the 16gb Moto G, I can do without an SD Card. I put stuff on the cloud and anything really important, I use my own cloud setup with Bittorrent Sync.

I do wish they would have continued to put SD Cards on most phones though. It is useful to have.

I never missed an SD card on my phone to be honest.

My tablet is a different story though wanting a decent movie collection. For me USB OTG is a crappy solution with either a wire or block sticking out of the end of the tablet. I am grateful for 64GB Micro SD for my films on my travels.

Always had an SD card up until this phone.

Can't say I miss it. I still have 13GB's available out of my 32GB phone, and I carry my entire music collection, as well as many multi-hour long podcasts, 2 or 3 different ROMS, and 2 or 3 nandroid backups.

Some people do need them, I'd wager most dont.

Removable battery would be nice, but I have an external battery pack with me most times.

Anyone is also running in to problems because of micro SD?

Nope, because i thought it through before I bought a phone with no sd card slot and realised I'd be fine without it.

You could always get a galaxy s4, and put a stable aosp kit kat rom on it.

You guys must live somewhere with great reception all the time and a huge data plan. For people who stay outside the city you need to be able to access stuff without the great connection speeds of 3 & 4G.
And when you have 90 GB of music even an SD card is getting a bit tight.

90GB, that's a lot of music. I can't imagine having enough time to listen to all of it.

The external battery would be nice because I like buying the 3rd party tank batteries to replace the stock one. Can never have to much juice. The SD card I find to not be a huge deal because even on a 16GB, I have like 7GB free. Every person has different needs though.

Yeah, at 90 GB you almost need a dedicated MP3 player

That sits in the car permanently connected. I do use subsonic but is random whether I can get a good enough reception to use it. Not great if I'm away in the Highlands for the weekend camping eats battery and data so on device would be much better. Could do with a 256gb micro SD

I have a 52GB music collection that grows steadily. I don't miss an SD card at all and I don't use the cloud for music. In fact, I work in a building with no cell or wifi. I load over about 3-4 GB via USB and it lasts me a couple of weeks. :)

I don't like that option it means you have to try and decide what you want to listen to weeks in advance. I do that at the minute while I wait for card size to catch up to my music collection

How is this possible?

I only keep one nandroid backup at a time (they're like 3+GB each)

I have to be pretty selective with my music and a lot more discriminatory with which apps I install than when I had a 64GB iPhone (mind you this is a good thing because I used to have so many apps on my iPhone that I NEVER used).

I only have about 5GB free but I kind of like that I'm forced to only keep stuff that I regularly use on my phone.

I've currenrly got:

2 nandroid backups @1.5 GB each (You only need to backup system, boot, and data during a nandroid. If you're backing up more than that you likely don't need to ;) )

3.33 geebees of music ( the nice thing about only listening to classic rock is the collection doesn't grow too much ;) )

3.5GBs of podcasts (mostly Dan Carlin's Hardcore History)

~750mb in my "flashable" folder (Roms/kernels/mods)

400 MB of backed up titanium backup apps

And around 140 total applications installed

All in all I'm about half full

I'm running into some issues with memory.

Mainly because I have a huge amount of photos on the phone, and an SD card would indeed come in handy.

Was actually considering trying the HTC M8, but with no OIS and a 4MP camera its not worth gaining an SD slot and a metal phone.
