Hi all
I have an SII with the following:
CSC: I9100OZSK13

Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version I9100XXK13
and Kernel Version
2.6.35.7-I9100ZSK13-CL603802..
Build Number
GINGERBREAD ZSK13
I have tried to update via Kies though that is not possible
(YOUR DEVICE DOES NOT SUPPORT SOFTWARE UPGRADING VIA KIES)

So is it best to first backup via Titanium or Nandroid at this point?

Next
Connect through odin and update to version:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KI3-v4.1-CWM4 (would this be the one?)

If all goes well is the following the right rom for NZ?(non carrier)

I9100XWLPI_I9100NZCLP1_NZC

Would be nice if someone could check for me as I'm new to the smartphone world.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to Android Forums kiwig! :)

Hi all

OZS is the Hong Kong firmware code.

Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version I9100XXK13
and Kernel Version
2.6.35.7-I9100ZSK13-CL603802..
Build Number
GINGERBREAD ZSK13

As per post #1, here, you will not be able to update OTA or via Kies if you are rooted.

So is it best to first backup via Titanium or Nandroid at this point?

Most definitely! :D

KI3 is exactly the same firmware you are on now!

Which New Zealand carrier are you with as Vodafone and Telstra use the, "T", variant modems for compatibility to their networks.

You are obviously rooted and so therefore it is just a matter of choosing the correct firmware and, possibly, modem for your phone. Do you require any other languages apart from English as you are using Hong Kong firmware?

I have bought this phone second hand.
No other language required. Would be good to use NZ firmware.
I am with 2 Degrees(carrier)

I have just booted in downloading mode for a first try..
it says ..
Product name: GT-I9100
Customt Binary Download : no
Current Binary : Samsung Official

Is this rooted?

Thanks.

Not familiar with 2 Degrees so I cannot say whether they need a, "T", modem. If your phone is fine as it is, then the answer is probably, not.

I just assumed you were rooted as you mentioned Titanium and nandroid backups, which are for rooted phones. Download, install and run Root Checker, free, from the Play Store.

Hi again
I just checked through 'root check basic' and it says:
"Sorry!
This device does not have proper root access".
So it does mean it is not rooted?

Correct! you are not rooted. Therefore you are not able to make a Titanium or nandroid backup before flashing another firmware, unless you choose to root first, using... http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...t/482994-rooting-galaxy-s2-dummies-guide.html

You do not have to be rooted to upgrade your firmware. You could just flash a new frmware, using the method described under, "My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!", in post #1, here. This is the procedure that you would have used after rooting and backing up your phone, anyway.

As for firmware, as you do not appear to need a, "T", modem and you have a GT-i9100 phone, you might as well flash the latest Android 4.0.4, LPW, unbranded, Netherlands firmware with English language. However, this will void your warranty. If you wish to flash the latest Hong Kong firmware for CSC code OZS without voiding your warranty, you will need to install the old ICS, Android 4.0.3, LPQ, firmware.

Thanks for now.
So is there no way of backing up a non rooted device? Just for being safe?
I'll go through your suggestion later in the day and get back again.

I just did try to root the device according the link(for dummies) and with the HK firmware and got the following error:
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Any idea what that could be?

Thanks

You cannot root using HK firmware... only a CF-Root kernel!

Got that. Part of the challange is getting used to the terms and not necessarily the action itself.
Have done the rooting and all went well.
I have also done the backups and looking now to update the firmware and done so with the HK one as you suggested.
Interestingly all went well though lost root access(don't know why) and also lost the use of the mmi code usability. So I can't check usb and uart?
How can I get that again?

Thanks
