Help Reboot cycle/wont turn on

Lurker
I just got an HTC Incredible from ebay in the mail today, and when I tried to activate it with verizon, it went into an endless reboot cycle. I'm noticing this is a common problem with these phones. The problem is, none of the solutions are working. Ive tried wiping, rebooting, factory reset and all the little tricks on this forum, but all it seems to have done is make the exhaust the phone because now it wont turn on or go to the reboot scree (volume down + power button)

I am really hoping to avoid trying to ship this thing back and wait for a new one only to potentially have the same problem so im hoping there is some miracle way to simply redownload the software via usb onto the phone? Ive heard of people doing that when blackberrys crash but I cant seem to find it for this phone. I dont have a working SIM card (I washed my old phone :( ) so any solution that involves a SIM card wont work either.

Please keep in mind that at this point it wont even turn on :( I so hope it isnt dead!

Thanks so much for any help would be appreciated!!

First you need to be sure you have an original HTC droid incredible (there is no SIM card [there is a SD card slot though], and should have an optical trackpad at the bottom).

If you can't get into hboot (volume down and power) there is really nothing you can do, although I've never heard of anyone not being able to get into hboot, unless their phone wouldn't even turn on.... However if you do get into hboot, you will want to download "the older gingerbread OTA" RUU from this site:
http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22 to a windows PC, and select the "fastboot" option on your phone (volume keys to highlight, power button to select) then run the program with your phone connected via the supplied USB cord.
