Root Reboot loop issue on Nexus One: do I need a kernel update?

Phemt

Hi everyone,

I just posted a thread on the Nexus One area about a reboot loop issue that I ran into with my phone. Basically the phone often shuts down itself and reboots, going into a reboot loop that I can stop only removing the battery and putting it back after a minute or so.

I bought the Nexus One second hand and restored the froyo stock rom, now updated via OTA to gingerbread 2.3.4. I hoped that could solve the problem but still no luck. A guy in the Nexus One forum area told me I should probably update/restore the kernel but I never read something about it. I just guessed the kernel went along with the ROM installed and never really cared about that.

What do you think?
My kernel version is:
2.6.35.7-59463-g52630a3
android-build@apa28 #1

Thank you!

No one really knows how I can change the kernel and try to see if it fixes the issue?

I looked in the xda developers forum and it seems they only have modified kernels and lots of them. I really don't know what I should do next. I don't want to throw my nexus one in the garbage but like this it really is impossible to use.

Please help!

I've never flashed a kernel, so am of no help there. I also have never had this problem, so it may be a hardware issue.

At this point, if you can't get help for flashing a new kernel, not sure you would have anything to lose by flashing CM7 and see if their ROM helps. If it is a hardware problem, you are kind of out of luck unless you want to pay HTC upwards of $200 to replace the Mobo.

I think the silence is because this is not a problem that has been reported here much and you've done most of what I would do.

Thank you Hook,
I guess I have no other options at this time. I'll try to flash CM7 and see if it helps, though I'm not optimistic.... I don't want to spend 200 euros and maybe receive a SLCD Nexus One. In the end I know I'll have to sell it for 100 euros or less to anyone willing to fix the issue by themselves or want to pay HTC to repair it.

Thank you again for your answer.

Something just happened that maybe can help someone identify my problem...

I was trying to get back to root (I went back to stock gingerbread and ROM manager detected I don't have root access) using this guide (Java Android Tutorials: Root Nexus One Gingerbread 2.3.4) but once I installa the recovery.img, go back to bootloader, press down and power to access "recovery" in the menu.... the phone shuts down and goes into reboot loop EXACTLY as it happened before.

Could my issue be something related to the recovery image then?
How can I gain root access if I can't use the recovery function in the bootloader?
