Help Reboot or Factory Reset?

OK. So far, my experience with ICS has been pretty good. IT's still laggy with certain functions: swiping, start up some apps, closing apps, etc.

I've reboot several times. But I think I want to do a factory reset to fully get on the same page with everyone else.

How do it do it?

I've read "Hold down power and volume down". Well when I do that, I see a long white flash at the bottom of the screen, then it disappears. When I let go of the two buttons, it just powers on the phone. Now is what I did a reboot?

If I do this with my tablet, it gives me an option to scroll down and change/reset factory.

It doesn't do this with my Maxx. Like I said, it just flashes at the bottom of the screen, then nothing happens. So I need to know if I'm doing it right. I've Googled it and it says to do in the settings. Not sure which is which.

Also, should I remove my SD card? It has all my music and pics.

I was going to type the instructions, but thought I'd just link to Verizon's help for Hard Reset.

They have 2 options either from settings (Privacy) or Recovery mode.
Hard Reset - DROID RAZR / RAZR MAXX by MOTOROLA

You were missing the part once it rebooted to Press and hold the Volume Up & Down then press the Power button. It is easier to do it from the Privacy settings though...
