Received upgrade

This morning, my TAB2 7 received an upgrade from 4.03 to 4.04. I don't know what the upgrade is called but....

The interface is the same.
The programs all work fine.
The "settings" side panel is greatly improved - more icons.
The standard Contacts app is greatly improved in fact it is now a delight to use, only moan is that the colour scheme is still a sort of watered down Diarrhoea colour which is a shame and no apparent way to change it.
Another downside is the weather channel app (standard) seems to have been re-designed by the under five kindergarten team.
No apparent speed change.
AND STILL NO PRINTING.....Grrrrrrr. (yes I know I can print standing on one leg and sending my data to a satellite etc etc....) but no way to to print from inside an app easily (easily being the killer condition).

But all in all it is (so far) a really good upgrade and worth waiting for.

Hmmmn.....since (half hour later) received a further download and "upgrade" now to 4.1.2 - apparently this really is Jellybean.....still, not bad, same comments as above, but now I have the dreaded black line at the top. Honestly though, it is different, it is not what I am used to of course, but it is not bad, it is easier to use!
The way you set out your "desktop" is much easier and cleaner, the black bar pulls down and the central "go back one move/screen" button is now bigger and central.
Still no printing though.......come on Samsung, why not?
All in all I like it.

What wireless printer are you trying to use?

I have a Brothers all in one that works with their app.

Check the play store for your brand,.

I am using a HP 6700 all in one wifi, TAB just says not found, I know I can print from the HP app from the play store, my point is why should the Tab say
"printer not found".....?
It's a Samsung FAIL........it really annoys me when manufacturers try and dictate what I use with MY kit.....
What happened to "the customers always right"?

Sorry about that - rant over......and thanks for trying to help!

Cheers

Most printers include a CD or DVD that you have to load to use the printer's features effectively on a desktop system, so why would you expect to not need to install something to print effectively from a tablet?

It's not just Samsung, it's any Android device. Same for iPhones and iPads. Apple's IOS only supports printing to certain types of printers, those with Airprint support built-in, unless you're running software on your LAN that emulates Airprint.

There's also the HP printing utility for IOS and Android that you mentioned, but you must have an HP printer that supports it, and many older printers do not. Your 6700 may have that capability, but you may have to set it up for their ePrint service. I've never used one that way, but I know many people skip that step when they set up their HP printer.

Additionally, you could use Google's Cloud Print, but I believe that involves having Chrome running on a PC somewhere on your LAN, and set up to share your printer.

Point taken, I will try the e-print option from the install cd, I did not install eprint as a default because it seemed to be a sort of "cloud" solution and I am "anti cloud" as I consider it to be a "all my eggs in one basket" pathway to data loss doom!

What I was moaning about is that apparently if I buy a Samsung printer the Tab will automaticaly find it....I consider that wrong as it means that Samsung are trying to force my purchase choices, if they can do that for Samsung printers they could include a generic printer driver in the opsys.
Airprint does not force you buy an Apple printer as an example.....in fact you can use a download called Netgear Genie (without having to buy any Netgear product) to provide an Airprint solution to your local lan for any airprint hardware, now that's what I call a socially admirable spirit!
One Samsung could do with learning!
Thanks for your helpful advice.

Cheers

Nope, eprint does not work in what I would call a proper fashion, the real problem would seem to be in the operating software, ie; there is no facility from the Tab screen to actually print from inside any of the apps.....
you can email or cut and paste the data and do it that way, but as far as I am concerned that is a clunky solution and belongs back in the days of tape data drives!
What is missing from Jellybean or the previous ICS is a dropdown with a print option.

Then your issue is with the software, not the platform. Look on the Play Store and find apps that behave the way you want them to. If you can't find them, then prompt the people providing the apps to add print functionality that will work the way you want.

I have asked developers several times on apps that I use to add functionality. Sometimes the things I ask for are already in the works, or will be considered, other times I get blown off. If I get blown off, I decide whether or not to stay with that product.

An unrelated public service message since I mentioned asking for enhancements:
------------------------------------------------------
I buy the paid versions of programs to support the developers... when you use free software, you get more than what you pay for, but you may only get what you pay for in support. Support the developers, so they can adequately support you
------------------------------------------------------
End of unrelated public service announcement

I think I'll have to add something like that as my sig.
