Recent Apps not showing on screen

Hi,

My Recent Apps are occasionally going missing when I touch the Recent Apps button on my Moto X Pure. All I get is a message that says that my recent apps will appear here. Have to restart the phone and when I do that it fixes the problem for awhile. Anyone have this problem and perhaps a solution? Running Marshmallow version 6.0.

Wiped the cache partition. Got the screen back now to see if it holds or goes south on me again. thanks much for your suggestion.

Wipe Cache Partition again and restart in Safe Mode disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them. If the problem stops it is caused by an app that you added.

Tried all the things listed above and finally called Motorola Tech Support. Seems that the first level guy I got on the phone was not aware of this problem. Was transferred to the next level tech and he thought that simply doing a factory reset would do the trick. Needed to watch what apps I put back and see if any of them caused the problem. Of course all went well when I added the apps back and things worked well for a couple days. Then yesterday the problem reoccurred. I can fix the problem by simply restarting the phone but that can be a pain in the arse if I have to do it several times per day.

Just one question though. I did not do the restart in safe mode tip. When I do that can I active the apps one by one in safe mode to see if any one of them is causing a problem. By the way I do not have this problem with my Samsung Note 4 which has the same apps on it. That is a phone that is used by my wife.

May need to get back on the horn with Motorola again next week.

The Factory Data Reset is unfortunate. He should have known better.

Safe Mode will deactivate all apps you added. If the problem is gone one of those apps is the cause. There is no way to selectively enable them.

If the problem doesn't go away then there is a system software/firmware problem causing it.

So ... if it went a away you can get out of Safe Mode and start uninstalling apps over a long period of time or do a Factory Data Reset and slowly add apps over a long period of time.

What apps are we talking about? Anything from Cheetah Mobile? If yes ... uninstall them. Any "oriental browsers" like Dolphin? (I have Dolphin installed and never use it for anything but occasional testing. Yesterday there was a game thrown up to play BY DOLPHIN ... that I never asked for. Chrome is the safest.

Thom,

Thanks for your advice. Talked with my computer genius son-in-law yesterday. Suggests that I just uninstall about half the 3rd party apps and see what happens. If it quits then I have an idea on which one(s) are causing the problem. If not I can eliminate those from causing the problems and check out the others by uninstalling them. Looks like it is going to take a long time to find the culprit.

Been almost a month since I last wrote on this topic. Did as my son in law suggested and selectively added back a few of the apps I uninstalled at a time. Last of them just this past Monday. Have had no problems with the Recent Apps feature with all apps re-installed. One thing that I have been doing for the last month is restarting the phone daily. Maybe that helped too. Thanks to you folks with your suggestions on how to solve the problem. Seems like the problem fixed itself.
