Help Recent Button Works Intermittently

Just bought a MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy Avant and am loving it.

The only issue I have is that the Softkey Recent button only works half the time. I try light tapping, firm touches, holding (which is supposed to pull up yet a different menu) and it wont work.

It always works again eventually but Im wondering if I need to have it replaced

If you are using a tempered glass screen protector that could be the issue. My recents key always worked fine for me until I got a tempered glass screen protector. The same day I got it, the recents key began working intermittenely.
