reception loss bumper case

Newbie
Hey, after cracking my screen and spending $200 to repair it I took precautions. I put a screen protector on and a metal bumper case with a slide on face so I can take it off easily. My download speed went from 5mps to 124kbs on wifi (fringe spot) and 5.5mps to unable to test on att data. voice went from 3 bars to 1.
anybody else have this problem?

Have you done multiple trials where you do speed tests with and without the case? I am assuming you did.

With that said, can you possibly take a picture of said bumper case? I just want to avoid buying the same thing LOL.

I'm guessing that the fact your case is metal might be the culprit, though I know nothing about radiowaves or whatever. I know Best Buy sells this leather case that has a cover for the screen. Only issue is that you'd have to operate it sort of like a wallet as it opens up like a book. I'd imagine trying to take pictures with it would also be a bit cumbersome.

Here it is on ebay:

This one seems nice too:

yes, I even put in in and took it out midtest. this is the case:

The priority, to me, is to protect the edges of the glass from chipping.
I have the samsung knock off and the original cases. the knock off is pretty cheesy, the samsung you can tell because it also replaces the battery door. Since there is nothing to hodl the cover close when dropping It most likely, with my luck, open when falling.
a leather pouch I don't like because the fone gets too hot. I did find a diary case that snaps over and should offer good protection, it's bulky, but has credit card slots so I can justify it by not having to carry a wallet.
Needless to say the form factor of a sleek stylish top of the line fone is shot when you have to use all this bulky crap because they went cheap with the inferior guerrilla glass 2, instead of gurilla glass 1. and the beautiful display is made lame with a screen guard.
so when i whip out my note, instead of giving samsumg all the oos and ahhs of the adoring masses, it looks like some tacky teenage thing.

Interesting. I would also assume that the aluminum metal alloy is causing the issue. I know metal does interfere with radio frequencies. My wireless keyboard used to act screwy when near metal objects (but these are moderate sized metal objects). The proximity of the metal object and radio may also be the issue.

I'm using the Otterbox Commuter case to protect the phone. I also use the expensive SGP glass.t to protect the screen. I feel my phone is now adequately protected. Though I still try to be careful handling it.

Oooh, that glass.t screen protector sounds awesome---just read about it. I currently have a generic screen protector on mine and it was an absolute PAIN to apply. How did you do with yours?

My problem with applying SP's is that I ALWYAS have some stupid spec of dust that ends up on the screen or the adhesive. :-(

I know how you feel. I was nervous about applying the glass.t as it's a one shot deal. And I had a lot of years behind me when applying screen protectors. Cleaning the screen prior to application is always the first step. Patience is another step. Never rush an application. Use a lint free cloth. If it's a reusable film, you can use a bit of scotch tape to remove specs of dust from the adhesive. But make sure it states that. There are some screen protectors where I've removed some adhesive with the speck of dust.

I was instructed on how to apply a screen protector dust free several years ago by a big name screen protector company. It has worked very well for me to avoid dust particles.
Go to the bathroom, close the door and turn the shower on very hot water. Let the steam build up in the bathroom. The steam attaches to the floating dust particles and creates a temporary dust free environment. It is then safe to apply the screen protector to your phone/pad glass. I have never had a problem with the small amount of steam and my device. And it has always been installed dust free.
Now if I could just get the protector on there perfectly straight.

LOL. Yes that is another method. I never used it and don't need to as I've become skilled enough to do a dust free application for some time. With the Glas.t, I only missed one spec at the edge of the screen because it was embedded in a crevice I didn't see (I would have scotch taped it out). It's a very miniscule pinhole sized spec at the very outer edge. Otherwise, it is dust free and I did it on the living room table. Not bad considering I didn't use the steam method and have 2 cats and a dog. ;)

Talking about derailing a thread. Went from bumper case interference to discussing screen protectors. Oops.
