Recommend a antivirus

As above. When i started using Android a few years ago I used AVG and Avast (I think) but soon realised they just aren't needed :thumbsupdroid:

OK... I have heard this before over the years and I keep away from dark sites and don't open unknown email... I haven't heard of a android phone being hacked

I use Norton Mobile (the fee one). If memory serves me there was one occurrence a while back where about 50 bad apps were being distributed from Play Store and they were detected after the fact.

My reasoning ... the price is right ... the probability of it ever finding anything is very low ... it's automatic ... why not.

I don't install pirated apps but I do browse a lot, so an antivirus is welcomed, just to be safe :)
I use AVG for my phone and for my PC and never had any problems with it. What I won't recommend is ESET, had problems with it in the past, maybe now it's better... but still...

I have Avast! installed, but mainly for the anti-theft features. I let it scan apps on installation, because all that does is take a few seconds on a once-per-install basis, but don't let it do real-time scans when running apps, web browsing, etc.

I also have MalwareBytes installed in case I feel the need to scan the device (Avast! can do this too, but is a bit slower. Anyway, on PCs I've had 10 false positives for every real infection, so like to have a second opinion).

Just because I can't get a virus doesn't mean that I can't pass one along so I use Malwarebytes.
Since as you say I can't get a virus because there are no Android/Linux viruses in the wild, I don't need no friggin' antivirus.

As for worrying about passing along a Windows virus...I'm not gonna do security due diligence for Windows machines. That's their responsibility.

I have Bitdefender, but only have that because of the free license due to my PC subscription for them. I also use it for anti-theft features, and permission watcher thing. But the AV scan is a handy thing I'd think. Better safe than sorry. But over the past 2 years of using the thing, there has been not one finding.
