svensett, Just noticed that you may be using a custom ROM? I don't have those options in my stock settings. If so, then that supports my previous observation that custom ROMs can be exempt from these issues.

No, my S3 is stock. My old DX was rooted.

Ah, I see the issue there. I have a pattern lock set. If you are not using a secure unlock feature (pattern/PIN/etc), you don't have the added options.
