Hello everyone,

I have recently bought an x10 and am just starting to get it customized to my liking.

Although I am relatively computer savvy this is my first smart phone and I am a little overwhelmed with the amount of apps promising to do the same thing. I will however be taking a look at all the threads here recommending apps.

I was hoping however for some recommendations as to how I should set up my phone... I would like to be able to achieve the following:

1 - Sync my Google contacts and calendar ONCE a day but still have my mail checked at the interval I set (currently once an hour). With doing this I hope to save a bit more battery. I don't actually know how often the calendar and contacts are synchronised.

2 - Have GPS turned off but automatically turn on when needed, like when I switch to Google maps or similar. Then auto turn off again once the program closes.

3 - Generally improve the life of the battery :D

It may be that I am asking for the same thing everybody wants with the x10 but asking doesn't cost anything and I am just hoping that you guys can help me with your own experience.

If you are able to point me in the direction of any other guides for different types of setups I would also be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Gibbo

I'll chip in with what I think...

I use Google for syncing automatically and haven't noticed any major battery drainage. I don't use my phone for email these days unless we are going away on holiday but even so half hourly is sufficient for me and no battery issues.

When you start something like Navigation within Google Maps it takes you to the GPS turn on screen. If you are going to use it as Sat Nav in your car I would suggest plugging it in to charge at the same time as this is a huge drain on the battery and it gets very warm too.

Battery life improves with use, I get probably 36 hours out of mine but do tend to just whack it on charge every night as I go to bed. Just let it cycle down and recharge a few times in the first week and it should get loads better.

I have Bluetooth on all the time these days as I have been using LiveView and like it to autoconnect when I get in my car.

Just keep an eye on battery usage nose diving after apps are installed, you can occasionally get a bad app or a bad install that will much your battery life but it has been in my opinion really obvious and fairly easy to pinpoint to what I have recently put on there.

Thanks for the simple advice. It's funny but I actually noticed today a difference in the battery (for the better) before reading your reply. Gonna also be trying out an app for scheduling profiles (toggle settings lite) mainly for turning on wifi only when I'm at home. Let's see how it goes. Thanks again. Gibbo
