Help Recovering data from bad SD Card

RE: Samsung Galaxy SIII

(new to the forum; first time post)

I have a 32gb Patriot Micro SD card in my phone.
Last night I the card was fine; (viewed pics and listened to music)

Last night the phone says the card is damaged. (Nothing was modified in the card and phone was not dropped, etc.)
I connected the phone (with card installed) to my Windows 7 laptop and all that shows up in Windows Explorer is the "phone" and not the "phone and card".

I downloaded "SDCardTester" from the Google store and ran it on the phone.
This program read, write and verifed a 9gb file and a 440mb file to the card and all test tasks were flagged as successful by the app.

...so the card can in fact be seen, be read from, as well as written to.
This tells me that there is a bad file or files rendering the card "unreadable" to other Android apps as well as Windows Explorer.

After the SDCardTester app was run with the card in the phone, I took the card out and put it in a stand alone reader and connected the reader to the Win7 laptop. result: Windows Explorer still does not list the card as a "removeable drive".

I found a free Windows utility online that checked my card and showed some files in preview mode. After the check was done, to recover the previwed files, the vendor wanted $60 for the software.

Money is extremely tight. Is there any utility out there that is *truly* free that will recover the good files from my card and be able to save those recovered files to the laptop?

Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate it.

Moving forward though, I would look at something like FolderSync to sync to a NAS, computer that is always on, or the cloud.... This way you never lose anything :)

You are taking the SD Card out of the phone first, correct? The S3 does not mount as Mass Storage and can not be read by software while still in the phone. You need to pull the card and put it into a card reader connected to the PC to work with it.

Try MyJad Android Data Recovery. It supports almost all the SD cards available in the phone market such as SanDisk SD card, Kingston SD card, SDHC card and so on. Scanning and recovering, it is easy for you to restore lost data without making any damage to the data of your Android device.
