Root Recovery error: Need Help to root

Boot loader is open

When i try to go to recovery i get an error E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

How do i fix this or is there a way to root with this problem.
The phone seems to be working perfectly fine. It is not connected to the sprint network only used on wifi.

I am just trying to root to be able to grant superuser access
I have tried many different methods but because my recovery is messed up none will work that i have found.

When you say your bootloader is open, do you mean unlocked?
What guide are you following to root?

And how are you accessing your recovery?
