Root Recovery for m835

I just rooted my m835, and I want to install a recovery so I can do things without worrying too much. I have the tokidiki edition of m835, if that matters.

so I've looked around and I'm not sure what recovery would be safe to install/ how to install it. thanks for any help. I mostly want a custom recovery, and a rom to help lower the battery consumption and boost the phones speed, coming from the optimus M with cm7, this is kinda a big step down.

install ROM Manager and install CWM for the Huawei Ascend M860. Once you have that done search this section a lil and you will find CM7-Ascend that has been fixed for the M835.

Do you mean the sticky on the first page?

I kinda like all the tokidoki startup animations, is there anyway to keep those? I know I can keep the apps by making a backup and doing an advanced restore.

if they are a bootanimation.zip (system/media) then yes you can save them then add em to whatever ROM. If they are in some other funky format some carriers use, then prolly not.

after flashing the recovery, I shutdown the phone and tried booting up using power + volume down + big red button, and its stuck on the huawei logo while booting, help would be highly appreciated :D

EDIT: also I don't know how to remove the backplate to take out the battery, so that would also help.

EDIT 2: apparently I'm supposed to press the green button, not the red, how do I remove the backplate to pop the battery and try again? lol

I dont know how to take the plate off either. Its going to either snap off or push down and pull down. But yeah pull the battery reboot and go back to rom manager and hit the flash button a couple times. The first time you push it it only downloads the recovery.img. You have to press it a second time to flash it.

More importantly, I don't see a backup option in the recovery... or a restore option there either. should there be? there was in the last phone I used. how would I restore a backup in case of a rom failure? I know I can make backups through rom manager

it has a list that says:

reboot system now
apply sdcard update.zip
wipe data factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe misc partition
touchscreen firmware update

that's all it has

I installed it from rom manager, choosing the huawei ascend, not the huawei ascend two

EDIT: also I can't boot into the recovery from a hard shutdown, only from rom manager, that might be the reason...

Touchscreen firmware update?????? Wipe Misc partition????What the hell???

Lets do it a different way. Download this to your comp http://www.mediafire.com/?hh4tzazbkhdgbcq and extract it. Put your phone into fastboot by powering down
hold vol down, end, power for like 10 seconds should stay on the huawei screen. then connect it to your computer via usb.

Then double click and run "adb-" "fastboot-" then "Install recovery" (theres 3 different ones of those 3. One for windows comps, one for linux, and one for mac choose which ever you comp is)

Then disconnect the phone and pull the battery out for about 5-10 seconds and put it back in and reboot.

When you go into recovery it should read-

Reboot system now
apply update from sd card
wipe data
wipe cache
install zip from sd card
back up and restore
mounts and storage
advanced

what's the button combination to enter recovery? power, volume down, and green still don't work for that, should I try it through rom manager?

I've tried doing this. I shut my phone all the way off, then pressed green + VolUP + Power. I released the power while still holding down the other two, and it still brought me into the Android System recovery instead or the CWM recovery..

I know I've gotta be doing something wrong, maybe someone can shed some light on this.

EDIT1: I'm currently in the process of ShinySide's alternate process. I downloaded the .zip, extracted it, and powered down my phone. I then held the Red + VolDWN + Power button for 13 seconds(Just to make sure) and plugged it into my computer. I ran adb-windows.exe and got a window full of text which then promptly closed(I imagine it's supposed to do this). I then ran fastboot-windows.exe and got a similar result. I then double clicked on the install-recovery-windows.bat and this is the screen I see:

android1.png

it's currently stuck here and I'm going to disconnect my phone, remove the battery for another 13 seconds, put it back in and then reboot. I'll post back here in a minute(via an edit to this post) informing you what happened.

EDIT2: When I removed the battery for 13 seconds and simply pressed the power button, then it booted as normal. no android system recovery screen. When I then shut is back off and booted into recovery, it brought me back to the standard android system recovery screen where the only options I have are the following:

reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
touchscreen firmware update

I'm all out of ideas now... Help? :P

EDIT3: Sorry for the double post, that was unintended.

u gotta hold red(end)button, vol UP (NOT DOWN) and power.
should be on da huawei screen after dat button combo and stay on dat screen .
click on da .bat file in the .zip u downloaded(u DID extract it, right?)
aww damn, u got android sdk installed? cuz u can check if your fon in fastboot mode by
typin fastboot devices

hahahahahahahahahahahaha... i'm a dumb@s$. I forgot SDK.

Let me go back thru the forums, so I can find the sdk instructions. Lol.. I have the stuff I need, but I forgot that I didn't do it. I'll edit this post with results. :-)

If anyone was able to get the tokidoki bootanimation.zip and the downanimation.zip(if there is one), or any other tokidoki stuff off that phones original rom. I would much appreciate it. I'm fixing up my girlfriends android phone and I think the tokidoki boot animation would do the trick. thnx in advanced... :D

I can go and get those boot animations for you, you'll just have to give me some time :D

sorry for the delayed response btw.

EDIT: does the bootanimation.zip come with sound or is there a different file for that?

EDIt, again: I found an ogg in a folder that is exactly what the startup sounds like. I think you need that too, so I'll upload it in a folder structure with the bootanimation :D

might have actually been a little too quick.... I appreciate it, but I guess I didn't get to your link in time. Megaupload is saying the link is temporarily not available.

I told my girlfriend about this and showed her a video of the phone on ebay, any way you could also upload the wallpapers as well?? Or if you could possibly post the system file made from your CWM nandroid backup, I could just dump the files I need from there. If you could either upload the file again, or let me know when the link posted is working again, that would be great. Ill be checking the link periodically to see if it starts working.

EDIT: Files showed up and I was able to download it. but what about any themes or wallpapers that are tokidoki based?? thnx in advance.
