Root recovery image

Hi Guys.

Basically i have recently got a SGS and have rooted it using Z4 and also have the OCLF lag fix.

But what i really want to know is what the safest and easiest way to make a custom recovery image. Also if someone could explain breifly/simply exactly what it means for when i install a custom ROM.

I have seen this http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...from-recovery/, but then also saw somewhere on these forums that clockwork mod recovery ist too great or something to that effect, sorr i cannot find a link to it.

EDIT: i cannot use clockworkmod because i have 3e not 2e recvery, is nandroid working on galaxy s? and if the need be there would i have to flash a new kernal, if this is correct is there a comprehensive guide as i cannot be doing with bricking my phone.

cheers in advance guys

Oliver

Tons and tons of info and links:

It might be a bit of a slog but it's described there much better than I can do it.

When you flash a custom ROM it's like installing a hacked/modded version of Windows on your computer.

Yes, you can Nandroid on the Galaxy S. All you need to do is go into clockworkmod recovery and then backup.

All the info you need, I think, are in the links above.

Hope that helps. :D

thanks for the xda links, i am on xda aswell. but i cannot use clockworkmod because of the 3e recovery, and it apparent only works with 2e recovery, which would mean flashing a different kernal?

Pretty much. Even if you are on XDA i'm gonna give you one more. xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM KITCHEN] ONLINE: Doc's and Stefunel's magical ROM Kitchen (3/1-2011)

It's a link on all the different kernels and their pros and cons. I've used Hardcore's Speedmod and Supercurio's Voodoo and got to say that they both are fantastic, and the kicker is, is that they've already got CWM recovery pre-installed so all you got to do to flash a custom rom is to download it onto your phone and then flash via CWM.
