If you think you're going to backup, create a cwm, and start flashing ROMs with these tools.
Well you might ask "What can I do then?".
You can root with framaroot bohomir, motochopper is another.
You can remove bloat(carefully! I believe all metro apps are ok for removal)
You can enjoy a decent, cheap phone

You can bring it back to the store and try to convince them "I received the new FOTA, and now it doesn't work? I dont know why!"
Unless you are an experienced user. Then you can do whatever you want, 'cause you're not going to go post the same whining questions on every forum you can find.

Do a little bit more research and realize that it will brick your phone. And not a soft brick you can recover from. You can not port and flash a ROM from a 'similar' device. You can not unlock the bootloader with a carrier unlock code(this one's my personal favorite). The slightest modification can end in your phone bootlooping throwing error codes at you. Well you might ask "What can I do then?".
