Root Recovery

I rooted my phone using the unofficial (official) root method in the sticky. I downloaded rom manager and flashed clockwork recovery mod in plans to install sapphire 2.0.0. As I was booting into recovery (holding the power button and x) it just stays at the M (motorolla symbol) when booting and doesn't boot into recovery menu at all. I can't think of anything else because I can flash froyo or anything to the phone to start all over again because the phone wont boot into recovery. It boots fine when I don't try and boot into recovery. Does someone have the stock recovery img. or another suggestion? I haven't tried unrooted yet...I guess that is my next step.

P.S. I have rooted before using the super one click method in the sticky and I have unrooted it also using that but that method only removes superuser and doesn't remove the recovery img...clockwork recovery stays if already flashed. The way I removed it was just flashing the original froyo back onto the phone and it restored the recovery.

If you have a suggestion on how to fix this please let me know help would be appreciated...if you think I should try and unroot please let me know a better method than super one click method because it doesn't remove the recovery img.

Thanks in advance :)

Try a different kernel. I know that some Droids and some kernels dont get along and this can cause a bootloop.

Happens often. Follow these steps to fix it.

  1. Boot your phone normally, then run ROM manager
  2. Press Menu key --> Settings
  3. Make sure Erase Recovery is checked
  4. Back out of settings
  5. Scroll all the way to the bottom and press Flash Alternate Recovery
  6. Allow it to flash SPREcovery onto your phone.
  7. Scroll all the way to the top
  8. Flash ClockworkMod again.

If you still cannot boot into recovery, then do steps 5 & 6, reboot, then do steps 7 & 8 and reboot again.

No, a botched kernel would not allow a normal boot into the OS. User is not getting a bootloop, user simply cannot boot into recovery - booting into Android works perfectly fine.

Having the same problem as the OP on a CLN replacement Droid from VZW.

Running rooted stock 2.2.1. Stock kernel w/ SetCPU on demand @ 800.

@ johnlgalt: Tried your method w/ no luck. Still can't get into CW recovery. I am able to slash SPR and boot into that recovery ok. Just no dice w/ CWR.

Any suggestions?
