Before you do a hard reset of your software, check your hardware.
Dial *#0*#
Select "Sub Key"
Press various buttons on your phone, each button will make the screen a different color, if that button does not result in a color change you have a hardware issue.
1- If your phone is rooted, You can download THIS from google play and it will reboot your phone into recovery mode.
2- If you are not rooted and have no idea what root is other than on vegetation, There is another way. Depending on which version of Android you have, you want to enable usb debugging. this is usually in one of two places. It is either the last option at the bottom of the Applications menu located in Settings->Applications->Development. Or on newer phones it is in the Development options located in Settings->Developer Options. Once you have USB debugging enabled, You gotta get adb on your computer... easiest way, Download THIS and to extract the Android sdk folder into c:\. Make sure you have the drivers installed for your phone and open a command promt or "cmd" and type "cd c:\android sdk" and hit enter. Then type "adb reboot recovery" and hit enter.
This may seem complicated but these era the only two ways I know how to get to recovery if your buttons don't work. I hope this was helpful to you! God luck!
