red cross when charging?

I havnt used my samsung tablet in a while but when I went to plug it in a red cross apears when I am charging it. I am using the correct charger and it is plugged into the wall. when I unplug my tablet it turns off after a few minutes after it has been on charge all day and it also does it while it is plugged in? could anyone please help me and let me know how I can fix this ?

It's evidently not charging the battery. It could be a bad battery or it could be a bad charger. The store can tell you which one it is.
