Root Redoing phone

So I never really touched my mytouch and rooted it like a year ago, but was too lazy to add a theme or w/e that stuff is called. Recently, my phone has been crashing, force closing on many applications, and continuously asking for updates.

I want to completely wipe my phone and gain the ability to delete all the pre-installed applications on my phone. Can someone tell me what steps I need to take in order to accomplish this? For example
1) Hard wipe via resetting to factory settings
2) Root it using bla bla bla method
3) Install bla bla bla theme

I'll look up on how to root and where to get a theme, I just need some steps x-x. I'm trying to do some research, but there's so many methods, so many themes, it's kind of overwhelming. :/ Can someone help me please? Thanks before hand.
