Region / Country Issues

Hi

I just bought a new S3 in Maldives (think the phone was made for Australian market) - I live in Sri Lanka but travel a lot.

When I try to run apps like Music Hub - it says I need to update and then it says that app was not found in the store. I think this is to do with region/country licensing issues.

Can someone advise how I can get around this - also how can I delete apps that come pre-installed on the S3 - eg the Navigon app is pretty useless for me as it is essentially for those living in Oz.

I'm a total newbie as far as Android & Play Market goes and hope that my questions make sense.

Any advice is much appreciated

TIA

As I mentioned in a thread earlier today, you can sideload an apk called Market Enabler. That takes away all country restrictions in Play. Just google 'market enabler' and hit the first XDA link in the results.

Edit: to answer your second question: no, you can't uninstall pre loaded apps (aka Bloatware). You have to be rooted to do that. You can disable (most of) them however in settings->manage apps ->all apps-> press disable

Hi Toosploos

Thanks very much for your advice

I installed the Market Enabler and ran it - but I still get the same error - actually I think the Market Enabler is not forwarding the ID of the store I selected - tried several.

Thx I followed your uninstall/disable advice and managed to get an UNINSTALL option

Still need some help on how to get Music Hub working please

Thanks

You can go through a lot of trouble to get something like music hub on your phone, and at some point you will succeed, but the problem is that even then the app will not work in your location. Music streaming services like these will only work in locations where they have bought the rights from the record companies.
There are workarounds for this (runing proxy's, sideloading, cracked apps) but they are illegal and I dont think they can be discussed here.
Before you get into all that, consider using an alternative for Music Hub - judging by the reviews on Play that app looks like a piece of junk with very intrusive permissions (I understand it displays adds after you end a phonecall). There are some good music streaming services out there like Spotify, Pandora, GrooveShark, LastFM. Maybe one of these will work in your neck of the woods.
