So as a lot of people will be aware the G6 will come with different specs depending on what country you live in. Which kinda sucks depending on which country you live in.

Here is how it pans out:
  • Korea gets Quad DAC recording and 64gb internal space,
  • US gets 32gb internal space and wireless charging,
  • The EU gets bugger all - none of the above.
So what is most important to you and do these restrictions put you off buying the phone? Personally i would like 64gb space.

This. I was looking forward to the G6, but if the version we get is nerfed compared to the rest of the world, count me out.

I wonder why LG decided Europeans needed a 2017 flagship with 2016 specs?

I bet you we'll still be paying through the teeth for it too.

The better DAC - not for recording (I don't take videos) but playback.

Wireless charging isn't important to me. 64GB storage would matter more.

But lacking both, nice as the screen is I can't see why I shouldn't save a lot of money and buy a HTC 10. I did contact LG to tell them that their regional policy had cost them my business (won't change anything this time, but I thought they should know that we don't all just take what's offered).

I emailed them yesterday and got a response back this morning -

Me -

I'm due an upgrade to my mobile in June and providing my network stocks it, I was looking at the LG G6. However, the version sold in the EU looks to be much lower spec than the versions sold elsewhere in the world. The UK variant doesn't come with wireless charging, the High quality DAC and doesn't ship with 64GB on board storage as other variants do. Can you confirm this? If this is the case, why are UK/EU customers offered a sub standard device compared to other regions?

Regarding the storage, if the device ships with 32GB Storage, will it offer Androids adoptable storage feature out of the box?

I look forward to hearing from you.

LG -

Thank you for your query regarding the LG G6; I would be more than happy to assist you with this query today.

You are correct. The LG G6 will release in the US with Wireless Charging but no Quad DAC while the Asian market will have the Quad DAC without the Wireless Charging.

As it stands we aren’t aware of why these decisions where made but it seems they are the result of surveys completed asking what features most people wanted in certain areas.

We haven’t been given a solid answer yet on whether this phone will support the adoptable storage option. However I wouldn’t imagine it will as we did not do this for any of our Android 6/Marshmallow phones which can do it as well.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email, John, and I hope that this email has assisted you today. If you have any questions regarding this, or any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again and I will be more than happy to assist you further.

I hope you are happy with the service I have personally provided, if you are, please take the time to fill out a short survey at the bottom of this email. It is based solely on my efforts for you. I appreciate all feedback given!

So, they've researched it and tailored the device to what matters to customers in different regions basically.

If you reversed the question, I don't believe anyone would answer yes to the question of "As you're based in Europe, do you want a worse device than people in the US get, most likely for the same price"? I don't think anyone would say yes.

I had such high hopes for this new form-factor but I guess I'm going to have to wait and see if HTC follows the "Tall and Thin is In" trend with there upcoming Snapdragon 835 Flagship. Had the US version of the LG G6 had the Quad DAC I at least would have tried it out.

You got a longer reply than I did, but it comes to the same: their interpretation of market research was that they could sell lower specs in some regions than others. But who knows what the market research was - everyone should know that the answer you get depends on how the question is asked. .

It still looks a nice device, but for me compared to buying a HTC 10 now in the UK it's basically the new screen format but lesser audio, waterproofing but more fragile body, for a couple of hundred pounds extra (best guess from pricing rumours). I'm not very price sensitive, but I need a bit more justification. And since all the indications are that other 2017 flagships will come in with 64GB base storage (HTC Ultra & Sony XZ Premium already do, and the leaks suggest that the S8, their main competitor, will also) then skimping there on the basis of market research is not looking so smart to me.

While I agree the 32 GB storage would usually be a show stopper for me as well, but even at 64 GB I would be popping in an SD card and upgrading the storage anyway. I've already picked up up a 128 GB card on a great deal.
So you've got a IP68 phone with gorrillia glass 3 on the front and gorrillia glass 5 on the back. Sounds like the makings of a durable phone to me!
One last thing, the wireless charging is going to make my life so much easier! The best option of them all for me.

Re. Pricing, the above claims it's going to cost £699. No thanks LG.
