Root Remap voice command button?

I have read many threads about this and followed many tutorials, but nothing seems to work on my Devour. I rooted my phone and tried to do updates and manually change the keylayout. Does anyone know how to remap the voice command button to pull up the google SEARCH command?

Thanks

Solved: I couldn't do it through the android terminal emulator, I couldn't do it through USB. I unfortunately had to buy the root explorer in the market and just text edit the keylayout file to make the "VR" command say "SEARCH" I believe it was key 71.

Now I no longer have the annoying "Please Say A Command" when I am trying to type, but have access to quick google search. hell yeah

Is it safe to erase the voice command? Or do I have to to remap it because when I change the VR to SEARCH and it is still voice command.

I'd get rid of the VSuite app. If you have any doubts, rename "VSuiteApp.apk" to "VSuiteApp.apk.BAK" and "VSuiteApp.odex" to "VSuiteApp.odex.BAK". Do not be afraid if you suddenly get infinite Force Close dialog boxes, simply restart your phone. If you find it still causes problems, rename the files back to their original names.

Thanks for the keymapper help, that helped a LOT! I always hated how the Devour lacked a search button, this solved two problems in one fell swoop!

Oh yeah, and once you edit the keymap file you must restart your phone for the changes to take effect.

okay. so, managed to remap the voice search button, and get it to function to wake it up from sleep, as well. i've also been trying to get the camera button to wake the phone, and go straight to the camera app as well, but WAKE and WAKE_DROPPED don't work for either.. ideas?

You can remap any of the keys in any way you like, either in the file in question here or in the /system/usr/keychars/adp5588_keypad.kcm.bin, and probably several other places in the phone. The file I just mentioned is really easy to hex edit, and in doing so you can add all kinds of characters to the keyboard you can't normally type on it. I have FN-Space typing a no-break space and Shift-FN-Space (not FN-Shift-Space) typing a tab. I even changed a couple other keys to type multiplication and division signs (
