Help Removal of app did not remove it....

AJW1100

Newbie
I installed a Profile app and found that I suddenly suffered a large bill for data packet usage. I then uninstalled the app from the GA2 applications as I assumed the Profile app was the cause. It seemed to do the job as it was no longer listed and the page icon had also gone.
I later discovered the profile app was not the problem and so attempted to reinstall the app through FireFox.
Google Play showed the app as still installed on my phone and my only option seemed to be to 'update' it. FF showed that the app would be downloaded shortly but nothing was downloaded.
I found a file on the phone with the same name as the app and renamed it and tried again to download but the result was the same.
I am a pensioner and not to up on todays high tech lifestyle so can anyone advise in simple terms a fix to the problem?

Thanks
Alan.

Hello, Alan (from one "pensioner" to another ;)).

When removing apps/widgets from an Android device, it's best to first go into Application Manager and clear cache and data on those programs.

Doing the same thing in Application Manager to the Play Store app is a good idea sometimes just to clear things and sort of start fresh. It'll remember your settings and list of "my apps" later, but it'll also remove remnants of data from uninstalling once you clear cache and data.

Yet another thing to do is, once uninstalled, to do a backup and then a factory data reset ("hard reset") if the programs' services are still hanging around misbehaving. Here's a page describing the two different types of reset you can do on that device:

Hi Frisco.
Enjoying retirement? I know I am and busier than ever!

Okay, I used the Application Manager to uninstall the app, and have cleared the cache. There seems to be no trace of the program now that I can find on the phone.

Maybe I am being daft but when I open Google Play in FireFox Google Play still sees the app as being already installed, I have cleared the cache and history and still it shows as being installed. Maybe its a FireFox/Google Play fault?

Would a hard reset return the phone to 'as supplied' condition? I am quite happy to reinstall my email accounts and have my contacts backed up with Kies, anything to look out for in this.
