Root Remove bloatware on valiant metropcs version

What bloatware can we remove from stock firmware that will not give error messages or screw up the phone.

You need root access to remove this stuff.

Before you start removing stuff, make a titanium backup of everything working, so if you screw up , you can return to working state.

Use root browser app to remove the bloatware (the bloatware is in /system/app/ folder , every app has 2 files to remove the apk and odex ).

We can probably remove 300-500 megs of stuff or more.

Since each phone has different bloatware, this is strictly for valiant metropcs phone.

Also, if you find some bloatware you removed, gave error messages, maybe tell us about it.

If you know of a good program you personally used to remove bloatware, share it with us.

If there is link to other threads elsewhere on the internet that have already removed bloatware on the valiant metropcs phone, please post it, or do copy and paste of info.

If you can locate that list that you removed it would be very helpful. I wonder if a list of all the stock software is somewhere on the internet.

If you can list the apps on yours, I can tell you what is missing from mine.

All I *know* I removed is Rhapsody. I just looked at my phone.

The app icon says AppStore, but desc says com.handmark.metro.launcher is the only mention of 'metro' anywhere in my apps.

Oh, and I don't know if it came on it, but I don't have a Facebook app. Or Skype.

I have installed other apps into the reclaimed space on the system partition. You do realize that removing this bloat doesn't actually give more space to install normal apps, right? And you shouldn't install just any kind of app into the system partition?

Uninstalling updates to a system app, and then disabling it, frees up all the user space possible. I do not have a list of what I removed. I do not generally delete system apps, unless I want another app installed to system.

Removing the apps completely after disabling will not free up more space for normal apps... only the system partition. And only extremely trusted apps should be system apps. To my knowledge (wich can be flawed), apps installed to system can access/do more than if they were installed normally.

On my /system/ partition that didn't come stock:

nandroid online backup
Titanium backup pro

I chose those apps, as /system/ apps survive a factory wipe... and after wiping I need those apps to get my shtuff back on it without internet.

These are the ones on my valiant that were their when I got it.
I'm thinking if we can remove most of them, and then go to google and download the versions that are new or not download the ones we don't need, could save some space.

I'm still not clear on what you are saying, I figure if we remove the bloatware we would have more space to install apps on internal device and run them. Not exactly sure what you are saying. Could you explain it again.

apps that come on the phone and you cannot remove (unless you are rooted, of course) are stored in a different location than apps you install normally.

The system apps (apps you cannot easily remove) are literally stored at /system/apps

That location being freed up wont make more 'normal' space... but you CAN remove old versions from /system/, install updated versioon, then move that into the proper /system/ location.

If you don't do anything at all, the original old version stays locked in /system/ forever. The updated version takes up normal app space... when it should be where the old version is.

Now I need to tell you, from MY list, the Play apps I have disabled but not deleted. I only use play music and play store.
I disabled the 'appstore' app, not deleted.

I did my removing/disabling by the seat of my pants- no backups. BACKUP BEFORE YOU DELETE.

Don't be dumb like me.... lol

The huawei backup app wont backup system apps.... just the updated versions stored in 'normal' space. I actually bought Titanium Backup for this reason.


If I can get a PC up again, I'll experiment with it some more.

Now that I said that... I also use online nandroid backup... heck, I *could* experiment... also got cwm recovery... my ass *is* covered. Make sure yours is, too!

This app will show you the individual partitions, instead of one cohesive file system.

Sometimes I get message if I try to delete some of the core stuff, like "if you remove this app, on restart it will default to earlier version".

There is thread on removing bloatware from the LG f6/f3 that has list of stuff the guy was able to safely remove, since that is metropcs phone too, but , although some of the apps for LG apps. And he created zip to auto remove them.

I don't think anyone should use any of those apps on valiant, but to see if we have any of those metropcs apps that those guys say is safe to remove. Or get pointers on removing them safely or creating zip of our own to auto-remove them.
