Remove empty app icon

I have an app that now shows 2 icons. One works, the other gives me a permission denied notification when I try to open it. When I long press on the offending icon I only get App Info and Edit. In settings I only see one app with the name in the App list.

I want to keep the working app, but would like a way to remove the empty/bad icon.

I would suggest you use a good file cleaner to resolve that because it may be a residual left from the missing app and most file cleaners remove all of that.

I used CCleaner to no avail. The app is installed, and used. There's just 2 icons - one works, the other is junk. So it doesn't show as a residual file from something uninstalled. And I don't want to uninstall the working app as it's needed.

CCleaner does a deep clean of the cache, I thought. Took a look and the cache was at 0, nothing to clear

Unfortunately there's some apps that comes in two or three different parts, icons, views..I guess created by the developers..with don't know what obscure purpose(i don't see an used for that..might be to protect one another or publicity and commercial purposes)..any way, if you delete one the other one goes too..what a duth bags some times these people are?, sorry pal that's what you are getting now..
The way I resolved an application like this one..threes a app called AppHider, so I put the aggravating twin app in jail, so I don't have to see it neither known of it any more..and I still can get to keep the good behaving twin..
