Help Remove family and friends from Contact List

I have set up a totally new account and imported a select few contacts to my new phone. (I didn't like the total invasion by google).

For some inconvenient reason, they have added "family, friends and work" three categories that I certainly do NOT want because they incovenient and in the way (pardon me if I seem grouchy, but I've spent days trying to set up this phone, and for me, it's totally counter-intuitive and my brain is vibrating! I'm switching from an iPhone and it's soooooo different!).

I really want to remove those PITA categories. Please tell me there's a secret way to make it work for me instead of wasting all that space and making the page too busy.

Further, is there anyway to have an icon of just History (like iPhone "recent") because that's what I use 90% of the time. That would work best for me, and take fewer clicks/missteps.

I learned (from the tips and tricks section--THANKS) about "market" for downloading apps. Downloaded Advanced Call History, Call History, Call Logs and whatever else, to try them out.

I found a nifty app called "call logs" which does exactly what I want! Frankly, I think it was already there and on the phone, but I didn't get it (too newbieish).

The other apps look good, but frankly, CALL LOGS does what I want. I come back here in case there's anyone else equally challenged, looking for the same information!

Yippee, I think I"m getting a comprehension going here.

SGS has the family, friends setting - but unlike Blackberry does nothing with them. You have no options about which to show.

On a BB, I had friends/family, business, and asshole spammers. I could block the spammer list from showing up, but the silent ring I applied would work.
