Help Remove MetroPCS apps w/o rooting?

I have a Huawei Asscend which I have not rooted. I had a friend recently brick hers trying to root it, and as per the advice of the Metro employee who sold me the phone, I have decided not to risk it.

That being said, is there any way to remove the myriad of default Metro apps which are simply taking up space?

If it can't be done without rooting, please, let me know. If there is any way to get them off without it I would love that.

Nope. You have to root it. Which really isnt a risk at all. Ive never met anyone that has bricked a phone from trying to root it. We can have you rooted in about 5 minutes tho.

Thanks ShinySide, I might be open to rooting it, but first, a few questions:

Is there a step-by-step guide for rooting this particular phone?
What are the overall benefits to rooting a smartphone?
Is it really that much better than leaving it with factory settings?

I can give you one. Very simple. If you are on 2.1 you use Z4root. If you are on 2.2 you Gingerbreak. Both are almost identical. Their both simple apps. Once you install one, you turn debugging mode on, open the app, select temp or perm root and hit "Root phone" It does its thing your phone reboots and you are rooted.

Benefits- You can get rid of all that useless Metro crapware, you can flash custom roms such as CM7 and have Gingerbread and a faster phone, you can use apps you couldnt use before (IE Wireless tether for root users and turn your phone into a wireless router), You can change things you normally couldnt change. The benefits are unlimited. And if you deiced you dont like any of that after you do it. We can get you back to completely stock.

Lets face it the Ascend is a crappy phone. By rooting it and removing the crapware makes it a little faster. If you root it and flash a custom rom like CM7 it makes the experience of using the phone so much better. Its like night and day. It basically turns this cheap ass low end phone into some what of a Mid grade phone.
