+1I assume you are talking about persistent notifications (agree op should clarify)
Some appls place items in notification bar "permanently", which gives the App higher priority and prevents the App from being killed by the Android memory management.
I think that setting refers to its own persistent notification (see screenshot from ilordvader, and here).My Data Manager has an option in the settings to turn off notifications.
No-go in 2.3.5...long-pressing the notification doesn't take me to app mangler, but if I go there manually there is no notification checkbox to disable.You can disable notifications on a per app basis. Just long press the notification and click App Info. This will take you to applications manager where you can disable the notification checkbox. However, as others have stated, persistent notifications are often used as a means to prevent Android from kicking the app out of Ram when it's idle.
Very cool!If your device is rooted, you could use Exposed Framework to keep apps in memory even if you disabled their notifications.
