remove rogers so I can update android?

budddyx

Newbie
Hi, I am new to android, a few questions :)

1. Can I remove rogers from my phone (samsung galaxy s) and manually update android to 2.2 or 2.3?

2. If I can remove, what are the pros and cons?

I am not looking to use the phone with any other carrier, I just want to stay up to date with android.

thanks :)

1- Yes you can

Pros:
-You get a new tinkered and faster phone.
-You get to taste Froyo and even some gingery items
-Sometimes you get a better gps.. more often not

Cons:
-You can brick your phone (like in dead weight brick)
-You can never return to a original Rogers rom. (You can but it's not the official Rogers rom.. rather a leaked version, also contains a AT&T boot screen inside that requires more flashing on your part to erase)
-You can lose functions like voicemail
-You can have more issues (death sleep, gps or wifi not working, battery drain, freezing from undervoltage or bad overclocking)

Well if your new to android and this flashing thing and are not ready to read, read, read, read and read some more on how to do it properly and understand what your doing........ yes it's better to wait for Rogers in that case :)
