Remove Water Damage Indicator Question

Out of curiousity why would you want to remove the indicator? It voids the warranty if you remove and besides that its a handy thing to have if your phone gets wet..
 
Assuming that it has already registered water damage, one could conceivably remove it to prevent the techs from knowing about the water damage - but I am betting that the techs will find a missing one even more disturbing than one that has been set off....
 
ok im pretty sure (ok, 99% sure) that he was basically asking how could he remove the indicator because the red mark showed up, either by replacing it or finding a way to get rid of it.im wondering the same thing, mine showed up (no contact what so ever with water)I've heard through other threads of companies that sell new strips.
 
I didn't consider replacing it, just removing it - but I *did* say that the damage had been registered, as opposed to the phone having been damaged....

Difficulty level I would say 3.5/5.0. You would need to remove the entire back cover. there was a post before of a Droid being taken apart. You can follow that. Most likely a T9 Torx Screwdriver would be needed. I would go on about the water damage indicator, but to each his own. Have fun.

It has a red mark if it has been set off, or is it completely red?

From what I understand and feel free to disregard if I am wrong. If you can see red X'es on it your good. If your X'es disapered and it is all red your Not good.
 
there are typically 2 or 3 water damage indicators on the phone, so you'd have to check and replace all of them before trying to scam your way into a new phone.

i doubt youll have much luck with this, but just thought i'd let you know what i learned from my experience with a couple water damaged blackberries.
 
Mine was showing water exposure before i left the store with it when I bought it, I should have made them give me a different one for it, but it's been working fine.
 
I was a repair technician for Verizon and Nextel, I can assure you that there are other ways to confirm water damage, the LDI is just a cursory tool to make an initial diagnosis. Hiding, covering or removing it, will not keep liquid damage from being discovered.
I will offer you this..... being honest and non-combative with the technician, will buy you a little wiggle room when you need it most..... most liquid damage IS fixable, but water from a chlorine pool, and sea water usually isn't.
 
ya def not a good idea to try and fool verizon, they will charge you the full retail cost of the phone if they find water damage. best bet is to use insurance to use one of your claims that you are allowed to use in a calendar year (2max per year).
