Help removing FB notifications on home page?

lately i have been getting those horizontal square boxes on the center of my phone whenever i have a new alert.

this could be "today's birthday" or a new message from messenger, etc.

how do i remove this?

before i never got this. is this because of a new update?

i would just prefer a notification ringtone and then a small alert on the notification tray up top as opposed to a large horizontal box in the middle of the screen.

thanls for your assistance.

I'm assuming you are talking about the notification tip on the lock screen under Lollipop. If so you can go to Settings>Sound & Notification Scroll down to the last section that says Notification. Then Tap the entry "When Device is Locked" click the Don't show notifications. This should stop them from popping up on your lock screen.

I've got the same issue but am not on Lollipop (it's Android 4.4.4 on a Galaxy Note 4). But, motivated by this post, I was able to find this.

Open the Facebook app, go to settings menu, scroll down to App Settings, scroll down to Lock Screen Notifications.
