Help removing gmail account & keeping data

hi there
hope ur all well, was wondering if anyone could help us please.
i had a bit of a problem where i cant remember my gmail password, so its not possible to retrieve it as i cant remember anything related to it, so i cant access the market. so I was wondering if I just removed the present account and made/added another would (is that possible without a factory reset?) that mean I would lose all my texts and other saved stuff/convo's from apps such as whatsapp?
thanks uuuu!!

Just removing one gmail account and adding a new, will not wipe anything other than your access to your market purchased apps. Those will have to bought again.

Don't understand, though. Did you do a factory reset, and then found out that you don't remember your gmail account password? Why not just set up a new account?

Or had you created a gmail account, set your phone up with it to get to the market, and then somehow removed this account from the phone?

if the account is active on your phone right now, try emailing the google support, explaining your problem, and they might get you a new pass word.

thanks flumme!!

thing is I've been a bit of a clown as usual and have forgotten my gmail password. Somebody tried their sim in my phone which is locked to 3 so now when I put my sim back in everything was normal but when I tried to access the market its asking for my gmail password. So I made another account and when about to remove this one a warning came up how I will lose texts/stuff etc. So I dont really wanna lose my texts and whatsapp stuff.

So what your saying is if I remove my old forgotten password account I wont lose my texts, whatsapp convo's etc? that's the only 2 things I'm bothered about really.

Thanks mate for the help, much appreciated.

As I have never changed Gmail accounts myself, I won't guarantee anything. But as far as I can tell the mere switching of accounts should not really affect anything contentwise on your phone, possibly apart from appspecific data. I don't know how apps behave when disassociated from the gmail account that owns them.

I honestly can't say for sure about whatsapp, as I'm not familiar with it. Does it have a feature to back up your data to your sd-card or to the cloud? If so - use it!

Use your new account to download a backup app from the market like "sms backup and restore" to back up your texts. This is the one I use - it's worked like a charm for me.

Which text app are you using? In the settings menu for the messaging app there might be a backup to sd option. If so you are home free, as far as I can tell.

Since you need to reinstall all of your apps in order to be able to update them via market (as market connects you with your downloaded apps, free or paid, through your gmail account), I would recommend you to make a backup to sd or cloud of what you really want to keep as described above, and then start fresh after a factory reset.

Good luck, and keep me posted!
