Removing O2 Branding

Hi all

This is the first time I have ever posted on this forum, however I do visit often.

I am need of a little bit of advice if anyone would be so kind, I am a complete newbie to this rooting etc.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which I got on contract with O2, what a lovely piece of kit it is!

I rooted the device using odin and an application called S2 Root which went fine after much googling and youtubing!

I then used the terminal emulator to remove some unwanted apps but I did not back up with titanium back up so am I correct in believing when they are gone they are gone for good?

I then attempted to install a custom rom using Rom Manager, it all went fine till it crashed and then got stuck on the Samsung boot screen which I did sort by restoring by the SD card somehow, but hey it worked!

I am now running the Samsung official rom which is working well but even after I wiped all data on the internal drive and cleared the cache all of the apps I removed are still missing - Is there anyway I could start again from scratch, like a new phone straight from the box? I have heard about an S2 USB Jig but would this be the only option?

I do intend to stay on the official Samsung rom and would like to keep it rooted.

However, I would like to have a go at deleting the stock apps again if thats possible and the second thing I would like to do is remove the O2 branding, when the phone is turned on and off, I do not want to see the O2 splash screens.

I hope somebody out there is able to help as I am a bit lost!!

Please try to answer as simple as possible!! I have seen a few links online regarding debranding but I am concerned that I will dowmload the wrong file and crash it again as it took me 6 hours of researching and playing last night to recover my S2

Thanks :)

So you want to be on the latest stock non branded samsung rom with all data wiped? (like new out of the box)

If so, download this firmware:
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Wipe the data on your phone - Settings>Privacy>Factory data reset> then tick format usb storage and click reset phone. (This shouls wipe EVERYTHING so backup anything you want to keep)

Extract the exe file you donwloaded. (should be a tar file once extracted)
Put the phone into download mode
Launch Odin
Connect your phone to your PC
Put the tar file in the PDA section of odin
Click start and wait for flashing.
Once done the phone will reboot

You will need to root again now if you want to remove any system apps

Thanks for that information, will this definetly work on the firmware that my s2 is on - XWKF3?

Also, will I root with the same files, i.e xwkf3 insecure and xwkf3 original through odin?

Ideally I would just like all of the stock apps back and remove the o2 splash screens.

Thanks so much for your help so far!!

So I have to simply follow your 1st link and flash in odin to remove o2 branding and restore apps and your 2nd kink to flash in odin to root?

Is it as simple as that?

Sorry for the silly questions... Cant afford to lose my phone!!

Also what is an s2 usb jig? Useful?

Thanks again!!

Yes thats correct.

The jig can be used for removing the yellow triangle you get on boot after you root, resetting the flash counter in download mode and getting your phone into download mode if the 3 button method doesn't work.

Great! I have just ordered a jig... Thanks so much for your help! I will do this tonight when I get home from work!!

Thanks again!!

Massive massive thank you, all worked well!! Even updated to 2.3.5 from 2.3.3, now just waiting on the jig to remove the yellow triangle... Will be sure to back everything up this time!! Thanks again
