Removing preinstalled apps ?

There are several preinstalled apps i never use but when/if i go to unistall them a warning flashes up thet uninstalling them may result in other apps not working properly.
The apps i'd like to uninstall are things like, play books,play games,play movies,news & weather,you tube,drive.

Do you mean uninstall or do you mean disable? I don't have the option to uninstall the preinstalled apps.

If you meant disable, then just disable them, no big deal. If you notice any issues (which is unlikely) it's easy to re-enable them.

I can't see any problem with uninstalling the ones you listed. Most of them are Google apps so expect to see them more and more as Play Store grows and they'll always be there with any Android updates.

Are you rooted? If you do want to get rid of some apps, root and install a custom ROM and 'freeze' certain apps then if after a few days of use you haven't noticed any problems, you can then completely remove them. This is a safer way than rushing straight to uninstalling.

Edit - I thought about this some more and unless you're rooted you shouldn't even be able to uninstall the apps you listed. You can probably 'uninstall updates' but these apps aren't removable.

Uninstalling system apps requires root

Disabling does not.

If you let us know whether or not you're rooted, we can help more :)

Thx for the replies. The phone isn't rooted, too techy for me to contemplate but i have now disabled them and the phone seems to be behaving itself.

Off topic i know but what do i gain by rooting my phone and can i "unroot" it should i need to return it under warranty ?

Plenty of advantages

Customization
Over clocking
Under clocking
Custom roms
Root only apps
Etc

Sure, unrooting can be fairly simple if needed to return via warranty.

As i don't know half that stuff does i'm sure i'm not missing it.It just sounds like i could get myself a whole lot more complicated than i am right now lol

I definitely feel ya...a year ago when I bought my S3 I was in the same boat, didn't know nothing from nothing. I did alot of research, read as much as I could before deciding to root, once I felt somewhat comfortable I took the plunge and never looked back. So read up, ask for help from this forum and enjoy the benefits of root and custom roms, you will certainly be glad you did. :)

I always liked using Wugs tool kit for rooting and unrooting.
Wugs does everything I need except cooking and cleaning.;)
