Root Removing VTT-Sprint Voicemail

This is preliminary and still a test. Once more users can verify on their own device it is suggested only those willing to go through the motions to test and reinstall if need be try this.

1. Root required
2. Reliable root capable text editor like Root Explorer.
3. Editing build.prop
4. Uninstall of main voicemail application.

First you want to edit your build.prop. I use root explorer via long press and selecting open wirg, text editor...

Open the build.prop and find this line, change it from true to false :

ro.lge.spr_chameleon=false

now remove the voicemail app from carrier and reboot. you will now see the original voicemail app in the app tray. initial testing is that it works fine. if you want to reinstall the pain that is kiddie Sprint voicemail just edit true to the line above and reinstall the voicemail from Sprint.

Savings space wise? 47 kb for traditional voicemail app versus 6.24 mb for the crap infecting all sprint varieties...the sickening kiddiefied crap they call voicemail.

oh and...

Phone call settings voicemail will state no app installed. But its looking for the sprint bloatware app. Initial testing by me shows this calls voicemail upon app start. My whole point here is to determine why its in the system and whether or not its needed at all and if it can serve the purpose that the sprint app performs so it can be removed permanently or if not, delete this. The less. The better.. whichever works. Going to do few voicemail tests to see how my device responds to incoming voicemail.

Well. No voicemail notification at all after removing the crapware from sprint. So it appears this little app is fairly useless. Now question is,is it needed by crapware in some fashion.....wouldn't be surprised these " app developers " would actually create a garbage app like vtt voicemail that actually needs access to another little app to actually call voicemail! i dont get the mind set with these people who developed this trash...really dont.

If you're talking about that little shortcut app that just dials voicemail, I uninstalled it long ago since it seemed stupidly redundant. No problems with voicemail.

The vtt app gets voicemail notifications from Sprint through text messages. You'd have to find a way to register a different method of notification with sprints servers if you want the stock voicemail to work. Imho that's only useful if you want to use minutes instead of data when checking voicemail.

Well, since talk is unlimited and data isn't, seems like that'd be ideal.

depends on your carrier/plan, not everyone using that app is directly through Sprint. Boost and Virgin use that app too. I prefer the app on my VM phone (Awe) since I only have 300 minutes but as much data as I want.

i wouldn't mind the app if it didn't remind me of some b rate chinese kids cartoon show. its cutsie crap that makes me want to vomit. im an adult. not some preteen chinese kid in love with pokegonorrheamon. i could deal with the app if it were geared to adults.

Hah I completely agree on that. It's only the latest version that added the avatars, so downgrading is an option for that.

Well that goes without saying... I'm on Boost, all plans are unlimited talk. Kind if wish it were the other way, but as I'll have 5GB of data for $30 soon I can live with it. :p VM plans are kind of whack.

You guys know the avatars can be disabled right?

theme it and release the apk

Straight Talk has Unlimited minutes and 5 gb data for $45. Totally kills virgin mobile. Doesn't me per ae. I've been with vm since branson started vm up in.the u.s.. I get unlimited minutes, unlimited music data and still have my 2.5 gb plan no matter what device i switch to. Even with vm treating me that well. Straight Talk has my attention.

Boost has growing data plans now... The one I'm on is $30/mo with 2GB data, increasing by half a gig every 3 on time payments, topping out at 5GB.

You learn to deal with it when it pays your salary. :thumbsupdroid:

actually i uninstalled it completely this morning. seeing as i have unlimited minutes i have decided to just check my voicemail every hour or so on my own. bye bye bloatware

I switched from simple mobile to boost mobile and got 10Gb for the $45 plan. I just use that app for the notifications, close it out as soon as I get them.
