Root Repartitioning Internal Memory?

Newbie
Hello, new user here.
I've been reading around the forums, thinking about flashing a new ROM (probably AdvancedStock8 v22). I'm doing this because I need more space for apps. I read that our phone has 4GB of internal memory, yet we only get 1.2 GB for apps on internal memory. This is because the ROM/system apps take up the 2.8 GB and the 1.2 GB is for user apps/app data, right? Kind of like the system partition on a Windows machine from what I understand. I was wondering whether before flashing the new ROM, I could adjust the size of these partitions to make room for more apps? I read that there are problems that can occur with Link2SD, and would like to avoid them by trying this first.

Worst case scenario, I have a 32GB class 10 card to repartition for use with Link2SD.

Thanks for any help!

Additional Info:
using CWM Touch
current ROM: AdvancedStock8 V22
software version: LS720ZV8
kernel version: 3.4.0

How much of the system partition is used by the ROM you wish to install? If you repartition it smaller than the ROM needs the phone will not boot.

I know nothing about repartitioning the F3. I have done with with an old HTC, so can confirm that the principle is sound. But that phone is completely different internally, and the technique used will not apply to the LG. So if this is possible for this phone you'll need someone else to tell you how.
