Replace Android Pie lock screen by another app ?

I have Ivymobi Applock which perfectly puts a lock on blacklisted apps (i.e. I have to finger my device or fill in a pin code to open such app).
It also has a home screen lock which replaces the default screen lock.
The procedure is: Set home launcher app to Applock and then in applock itself enable home screen lock.
That works, but after screen off / screen on the system lock screen still pops up I have yet to fill in the pin code (fingering does not work anymore) and then the glolbal lock screen of Applock which I can finger unlock. The latter is correct, but the first one not. I enabled Applock in 'Accessibility' of System settings.
My device is a Huawei Mate 9 MHA-L29 running EMUI 9.01 (Android Pie 9).

According to this article, Android Pie does allow that apps are able to (un)lock the device.

So presumably I am doing wrong something. Or are there other screen lock replacing apps which work correctly ?

well that article is only applying to pie overall. each phone manufacturer and carrier will always add their spin to each update. the article refers to "global_action_lock_screen" which on my note 8 i do not have this feature. and explains that why i still have to either enter my pin or use my finger to unlock the phone. not sure on your phone though. it might be different.

i'm gonna try and download other lockscreen apps and see if the article holds true or not, but i have my doubts.
