replace stock phone app

Hi -
I have a Galaxy Exhibit II andriod phone. I dislike INTENSELY the phone app that comes w/ the phone. I set the general phone settings to not go into screensaver for 10 minutes, but the call app insists on going dark within 3 secs. So - If I am on a phone call where I need to keep entering numbers on the phone call keypad - I have to keep tapping the screen to keep it active. I am looking to replace this app and all I can find are apps that are for making free wifi calls. Any suggestions?

I'd think its not the phone app but the sensor. If something is blocking the proximity sensor, the screen will just turn off like that.
