Help Replaced digitizer no back button or recent apps

Newbie
I cracked the digitizer on my Galaxy S5 (Sprint). I bought a new OEM digitizer, and was very careful while taking the old one out. I plugged in the new digitizer, and started the phone. Everything seemed to work except for the back button, and recent apps buttons. At first I thought it was a defective digitizer, so I had them send me a new one. I still have no back button, or recent apps.
Just so you know, I am not in power saving mode, and I also checked to make sure touch light duration set to 1.5 seconds, as I always had it.
Any ideas what would cause it to not be working correctly?
I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks,
Ace

Just about has to be the ribbon cable from the bottom of the digitizer to the motherboard.

either you cracked the cable, or (as I did on a laptop) broke the retaining clip that holds the ribbon cable down securely.

In my particular case, I lucked out with being able to layer in a piece of mylar/plastic material and snugged the cover down over the connector housing. I prayed a while, put the laptop together again (not easy on mine) and turned it on.

It worked for me..... I was happy as I had just replaced the hard drive, and if the laptop was junk now, that HD was a wasted expense.

Definitely not the cable, or the connector. I checked all that. I made sure it was snapped into place (about 5 times). It looks as if the sensors for the back button, and recent app button are NOT

part of the digitizer, but part of the phone, (as shown in the picture provided). The 2 white squares.

From that photo, you are correct.... dunno how to help you now.
Any way that moisture got into the phone while you had it open?

Definitely no moisture. When I googled this problem, I did come up with a couple of people that had the same problem. They didn't seem to get an answer either.
I do appreciate you taking the time to try to help me.

OK, I figured it out. When I removed the original screen, which was shattered. I accidentally broke off the 2 connectors for the "Back", and "Recent Apps" buttons, which are built into the charging port. See image below. They both snapped at the black ribbon, (where the yellow arrow is pointing). I just ordered a new charging port off of Ebay, and that should fix my problem.
I hope this helps anyone else who made the same mistake as me.

AZ, you seem to have a tendency to break things including yourself.;). No wonder you are so good at fixing things.

:) I have a long pedigree from Hard Knocks University.... tore apart my first National (brand) ham radio receiver to replace all the grungy capacitors back in 1956... unfortunately at that point in time, my eduKation was still lacking :( but you learn by putting forth effort and then figuring out how to correct your mistakes.
