replacement phone ordered, need backup SD card help!

My incredible 2 charging port has been getting progressively loser as time goes by. I've ordered a replacement and will have to send this phone in. I don't want to lose what is on the SD Card in my current phone. How do i get everthing backed up? Or can i take the SD card out of the old phone and put it in the replacement phone and put the SD card that comes in the replacement in the old phone?

I have had my phone since 7/11 and have a lot of pictures/music that i don't want to lose.

I've tried changing the "Connect to computer" setting to Disc Drive, but i don't see the drive when i look at "My computer" on the computer.

I need simple/complete instructions as i am clueless!

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to swap the external no problem. Does the incredible 2 have internal memory? If so do you have a lot on there?

If the replacement you ordered is from Verizon/Asurion and you have to send back the original phone, just remove and keep the microSD card from it, you don't send it back... then just insert the new one into your new phone.

On the other issue, when you connect the USB cable unlock the screen of the phone, you should be prompted to put the phone in Storage Mode, Charge Only mode, or a handful of other options, select Storage Mode and press OK. If you are not prompted, pull down the Notification Window and their should be an option to change the USB mode, tap it and the screen I mentioned above should appear. Still not getting anything? Go to Settings-Connect to PC and make sure "Ask me" is ticked and then unplug and plug back into the PC or try a different USB port.

The final possibility is that the USB charging port has gotten bad enough that the USB portion will no longer function. If that is the case, use a utility like ES File Manager to move all data from the internal storage to the microSD card, just in case, before you return the old one.

Key here, the microSD is yours forever... you don't send it back when you get a replacement. When you send back the phone, only send EXACTLY what they tell you, to Verizon it is the bare phone itself do not include the SIM, microSD card, battery, charger, or even phone back, if it is Asurion it's the same except they want the phone back as well.

Thanks for the info. The options for USB Connection type are:
Charge only
HTC Sync
Disk drive
Internet Connection Mode
Media sync
Internet pas-through

I changed the connection to "Disk drive", unplugged the cable and plugged it back in and don't see where it is connected to my computer. BUT, if i can switch out the SD card then i'm good.

Internal storage states .97GB space, but i don't know what is on on the Internal storage. It looks like a few apps i've downloaded and the apps that were pre-installed. I reset it to factory last night and only have 2 apps that i downloaded again. No big deal there, i'll download them again to the replacement.

Knowing i don't have to send the SD card in with the phone is a big relief!

I think the battery is shot as it has been plugged in for about 3 hours with constant monitoring and it still shows 11% battery life. I'll not be using it much while waiting for the replacement!

Should i just do a factory reset before i send the phone in? I don't want any personal date on the phone when i send it in. The phone i have now must have been a refurb as when it set up after the factory reset, the email it asked me to set up was for a renee.something@hotmail.com. Sure wasn't mine!! I don't remember when i set it up when i first got it, but it must have been there!

I did an online claim so am thinking it will be going to Asurion.

I'm feeling better about this all now!

Thanks!:)

Once you change to 'Disk Drive', do not unplug the USB and plug it back in, the phone will reset the USB port in the phone and it should connect properly. If you unplug and plug back in, it will return to the default setting (Charge Only) every time and you will have to change it again.

It is best to do a FDR if at all possible before sending back a phone, although I think the chances anyone at Asurion would use that information are miniscule, best bet is just before you send it back, boot into HBOOT and do a Factory Reset, that will clear everything out.

And yes, an online "claim" is most likely through Asurion. I am actually in that process myself, dropped my Rezound on the ground yesterday and shattered the screen, should have a replacement here Tuesday.
