Replacement phone purgatory

Sigh, my first Nexus was good, but it met a untimely demise to chicken soup.

I got my first Asurion, replacement 2 weeks ago. It never was right, it drops radio(data and phone) several times a day sometimes requiring a switch to "airplane mode" or even rebooting to get service back. I'm on the phone getting a replacement now.

My question is, am I screwed? Am I going to spend to next 6 months being fed refurbished phones that don't work?

:(

Not always. Horror stories exist of course, of people going through 17 phones in a row that are all bad. The likelihood though, of you getting multiple bad phones in a row is pretty slim. Keep your fingers crossed and see how it goes. Worst case, if THIS one goes funky, it might be your ticket to an S3 instead.

I doubt that would happen, one of the things that worries me most, is because I had to get a Asurion "replacement" I'm no longer under VZW's warranty, I'm under Asurion's. I could be wrong but I some how don't think they'll be as likely to fork over a "new" phone. we'll see, I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed.

True, forgot you had to do insurance for yours. Still though, let's say that Asurion sends a phone out, and it has say, data connection issues after a week. They send out another. And IT has issues. With the standard Verizon replacements, after x number of replacements in a short period of time, they will usually look into a different model for you. Asurion MAY do the same, but honestly, when I was a tech, I rarely spoke to Asurion directly so I can't speak for them. But as with anything, sometimes in a case like that, being a squeaky wheel sometimes leads to better results. AND, if something like that comes up, let's say you go through 3 phones in 2 months, all with issues. If they don't consider replacing your phone with either a BRAND new phone, or new model, then even though it's an Asurion deal, still call Verizon customer service. Yeah, it's Asurion being a pain, but you're still a Verizon Customer, and they would hate to lose you over something like that. I've seen cases where Verizon will step in, and help the customer out.

Keep us posted on the replacement though!

Problem is the Gnex is still relatively new and there's plenty in stock. I've heard of folks with other phones get an alternate (or sometimes upgrade) if their insurance phone is out of stock. If you continue to have problems, you can try putting the pressure on them to get an S3. Good luck and hopefully you end your string of lemons.

There are plenty of NEW stock available still, but usually if the warehouses/insurance have any refurb stock, they're going to default to sending those out first (usually). New stock in the store warehouses is different than the others. The repair center and Asurion run their own inventory until they are out, or unless it's a heavily escalated issue.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the OP though, that he won't experience any issues the 2nd go round :) It's such a great phone, I hate when people can't fully enjoy it!

I'll find out later today. To be honest, I'd be happy just to get another GN that worked as well as my original. If this ones a dud I'm going to push at least for a "new" GN...

Would be my course of action as well, if this one isn't up to par. Let us know how it is when ya get it :)
