Replacing a computer with Android phone or tablet?

No matter how much tablet offers you but still its an half ass in front of netbook, for ex i can develop my DSLR RAW files in my Sony Netbook in Adobe lightroom and Adobe photoshop,i can convert any type of video to any format in my netbook via IMTOO video convertor, burn DVD's by connecting external ODD download torrents, huge 320Gb HDD and list goes on and on,

Tablets are nice way to waste money.

Exactly.

I already have a Samsung Galaxy S, I don't need a larger version of what amounts to the same thing. See also iPad vs iPhone/iPod Touch.

But I don't do any photo editing, I don't burn DVDs, and other than music and photos (which are stored on-line),

I guess this is OK as long as one doesn't travel overseas, e.g. using Amazon's or Google's music cloud storage services, and then trying to use them outside the US. Myself, I stream and download a lot of music from google.cn, but I can only do this in China.

I never take my computer overseas anyway. I travel for pleasure, not business, so I can use my Droid X with WiFi for news, email, and any needed information. I also have downloaded much of my music so I can access it without a connection. I can also download from Dropbox any needed documents.

Has anyone had experience replacing their computer with either an Android phone or tablet? As a happily retired school teacher, I don't have nearly as much need for the power. I use email, music and book apps, limited work processing (I do a weekly book review column, so I would need something more than the on-screen keyboard I currently have on my Droid X), photos (almost no editing, just importing pictures from my camera (10X optical) and organizing them into albums, and of course the internet.

I currently store most of my data on dropbox, so the more limited storage would probably not be an issue.

I'd love to hear your experiences. I have a MacBook, so I have thought about the iPad, but right now it still requires periodic connection to the computer for backups and updates.

Well if you already have a computer why would you call a tablet a replacement? Sounds more like it would be a waste of money

Why grill the OP on why he wants to do it, or present him with problems he has already said he will not encounter? He asked a simple question. Sheesh!

Charles, for what you are wanting to use it for, a tablet should work just fine, as long as you get a keyboard (although you may be completely comfortable with virtual keyboards, so even that may not be a necessity.)

Why not go to Best Buy or something similar and play with a few tablets? Then you can get a better feel for what you like. You could also play with net books, which will give more functionality, but the tiny keyboards on them are an annoyance to me (may be my big, arthritic paws more than the keyboards, though.)

I never thought I would want/need a tablet, and my husband gave me an iPad. I really do love it and use it all the time--much more than I use the laptop, although there are still things I need the laptop for. And--it is really really *fun*
