(REQ) Samsung Galaxy s owners help - Need some nv_data information
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have a fix for restoring product code back to original for the Galaxy s and need some hex code info to make sure i convert the fix properly.

I am asking any willing UK Galaxy s GTI9000 owners (preferably unlocked)

to download the free market app HEX EDIT and report some info for me.

What i need to know is the Hex code for 4 specific lines of your correct nv_data.bin

1. Use Hex Editor App from market (free)
2. Open the nv_data file (once in hex editor use capacitive menu button to get to options)
3. Goto the options again and JUMP TO line 0188008 will take you to line 00188008. Will need the data from it and three other lines you will see below it.

There will 8 block of data between the line # and the text at the right that you reposted. Please post the #'s/letters for each corresponding block so i can ensure that i convert properly.

00188008 | | | | | | | | |
00188010 | | | | | | | | |
00188018 | | | | | | | | |
00188020 | | | | | | | | |
what i would need is the two numeral/letter codes for each of the blocks listed next to corresponding line #'s. Each line has 8 blocks. Also the text to the far right of the final block would help as well.

if preferred you can provide this data in a PM
If you don't want to manually transcribe the data over to a message you could snap a screen shot of the hex editor with these lines visible and post.

Welcome to Android Forums!

Can you give a bit more information on what you're wanting i.e. what is stored at these addresses?

I'll add that's it's vitally important that users do not edit or alter their nv_data.bin file at any cost, unless they know exactly what they're doing and have backups in case of error!

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome.
To the best of my knowledge there's nothing sinister in the data I've asked for.
I flashed an update to my SGS and have lost my outgoing call capability.
The info at these addresses would be the correct baseband modem, matched with the corresponding phone and the bandwidth all relevent to the UK.
It may not work but I've tried everything else to no avail and this is my last throw of the dice before my SGS hits ebay.

Cheers.

I never doubted that. Somebody might already have the info to hand though... you never know. :)

On occasional a similar thing can happen with the GS2, including the IEMI changing a null value, and the solution in that case is to flash a stock firmware. I guess you've tried that, though.

Good luck with this, anyway.

As far as I understand that section of the nv_data.bin has information relating to the hand sets location. For example XEU. There are post both here and XDA explaining this method of "rebuilding" the file, and I assume from a pre-stored copy of a "good" nv_data.bin file. :)

If like myself you've lost your default nv_data.bin and there for looking through countless forum posts about "rebuilding your nv_data.bin" file which has a crypto version of your imei data, then I'm afraid that this method is false.

This will only change your location data, and I believe that doing a *#272*imei# will allow you to change this rather than the HEX method is another viable way to _only_ do this; not create a new and fresh IMEI nv_data file, again my understanding is that this is illegal to 'change and modify'.

I'm hoping that someone understands my train of thought and prove me wrong, I'm currently sitting with a I9000 running 2.3.6 rooted with a default imei number "004999010640000". Unable to make calls and looking for the holy grail.

best regards

Fortunately my imei is alive and well, I just need the aforementioned info to - in my eyes- reinstate some missing info.
Sorry to hear about your phone and if I get what I'm asking for I'll get back to you with a possible fix to get your phone up and running though as you say it won't get your imei back.

Cheers.

To change or modify this settings is illegal.
I would also advise not to give away any of this information from your phone to others.
It can make your phone useless if they use the information in a bad way...

This may well be true, but the OP merely wishes to restore original settings that have been lost.

Sure, but he ask other to post there imei codes.
But it still illegal to do, even to restore it by your self.
I do understand that this is a problem for some.
I did look at my phone also now and my phone also have wrong numbers.
But the fact is that the phone do work without any problem...
As a recall imei is used only for some stuff, like warranty.
I never heard any had a problem to use the phone with the "broken" imei.

No he didn't. The IEMI has nothing to do with the issue.

Please read the OP's posts again, especially #3. It's not the IEMI that is "broken".

To me it sounds like the IEMI. Its the code in that file. No other code is changed that would be a problem as far I know. I had not heard for soon 2 years that it would be an other code there.

Hold up there GTO, at no point have I asked anyone to post their imei, in fact I stated that there was nothing wrong with mine and that the figures I asked for would not restore an imei.

sorry to go on but in fact as fr4j0 says in his/her post its nigh on impossible to restore a lost/deleted imei (unless you send the phone away to makers to be restored)

No its not, but it is very very illegal.

So what code do you want from that file that would change your phone so bad?

To me it sounds like the IEMI. Its the code in that file.

There is much more info in the nv_data.bin file than just the IEMI.

Bottom line: I'm satisfied that the OP's motives are honourable. If you don't wish to assist by checking the nv_data.bin file on your own handset that's your prerogative, but please don't cast aspersions on other members unless you have concrete proof.

See the OP, and if you're prepared to help please continue. Otherwise please refrain from continued arguing.... mod staff are satisfied that this is above board.

My point is that you should never give away to a random person any information from that file. The fact is that there is a lot of stuff that is unique to your phone and if you give away stuff to random people you can get in trouble.
So far I know its only one thing that do change in that file if you get a corrupted file or replace that file with a broken one.
Also the content in that folder do also change if you flash eclair, froyo, gingerbread or ICS.
In eclair you will have .bak files in that folder, but they are not there on newer versions.

But to be fair he can contact me and explain more what he is doing and I can check it out what he is trying to do. Maybe we can solve somthing:p

A point that has already been made.

"So far as you know...."? In other words you're making assumptions based on guesswork. Presumably you have an nv_data.bin file of your own you can check?

First up, your choice of emoticon in is ill-advised and unappreciated.

If you wanted to be "fair" you would have contacted the OP yourself and offered advice, instead of barging in, ignoring my previous input, and basically accusing another member of malicious/dishonest behaviour. I suggest you review the section of the Site Rules & Guidelines regarding "constructive posting".

This is a user-to-user support site, where members assist each other. If you're not comfortable doing so in this instance, no problem. Others may view things differently, and I am here to keep an eye on them. There's no further need for you to worry.

In fact I have a couple of them and in different versions. So I do NOT guess....

Lol. You must be joking....:p:p:p:p

I wanted to warn people for this to send information from this file and I guess you do not care about that. I do not accuse him about anything more then he should not ask about that kind of stuff.

I always try to help people out. I am probably the one the has most knowledge about this phone on this board. I also have the skill to do this kind of things without much problem. But I am not often here due lack of time. Also I did offer myself to be a bigger part of this site, but the welcome I did get from the owner was very cold, so they lost users and expertise here.

BTW. you can delete all files in that folder and it will recreate the files and only the IMEI number will be missing. All other data is intact. Why? well they are stored in the hardware..,,

Well thanks for all that info GTO, you seem very concerned about imei so I'll reiterate for the last time, I have no interest in imei and mine is intact and genuine, all I'm after is 3/4 lines of firmware info that may get my phone up and running.
As Slug said, if you can help- fine.
As far as I'm concerned I'll leave it there.
