Help Request for Kids Tablet

My kids had a Samsung Galaxy Tab III kids version tablet for a few years. It was a great no-nonsense Android tablet. Well except that I had to replace the USB ports twice on each of them and one screen broke, and the installed RAM and how it worked started to be restrictive. Well I opted for an Amazon Kindle Fire for kids (5th Gen) well that is a disaster as well. FreeTime restricts what your kids can use, so no third party app can be added to be used with FreeTime. So I may have to cut that loss and opt for a different android based tablet.

What are the best Android tablets for kids and especially that come with a protective cover and a non-restrictive UI and preferably with a kid friendly interface that I can control?

I have invested quite a bit of money in Android apps from Play and ones that they are happy with, but can't seem to find a decent Android tablet now without serious restrictions.

Well, Android is pretty open so finding a tablet specifically designed for kids may be a challenge. Have you considered getting a good tablet and setting up guest accounts for your kids? That way they can do all their stuff without having Administrator privileges and potentially bricking it.

One thing I can definitely, STRONGLY advise against: DO NOT buy a cheapo no-name Android tablet. They are an inexpensive pain in the neck. There is virtually no manufacturer support and they will likely never get an update. Stick with a good, brand-name tablet. If you would prefer to buy a gently-used, pristine tablet for your kids, Swappa is a great place to find one. Highly recommended.
