Root [REQUEST] link for drivers.

I'm kind of a noob at this, and a complete noob with anything involving HTC. I'm attempting to root my Evo V. I try following the steps in the complete newbies guide to rooting etc. My phone can't find HTC sync on my computer which is what I thought I needed to get the proper drivers. I have USB debugging enabled and I have antivirus turned off on my computer. I have the files where they need to be I also have my antivirus disabled when attempting to root. Correct me if I'm wrong about where to get the drivers I'm just kinda stuck now though. /:

P.S. I am using Windows 8 not sure if it makes a difference.
